I'm more concerned that should Obama be assassinated there will be probably be some race riots but I don't think anything too serious. Maybe like the 92 Los Angeles riots, but in a few other cities simultaneously. The riots themselves aren't what frighten me, but the resulting crack down and removal of civil rights that will come afterwards.

But why are they so angry? They've been handed everything for the past 8 years.. smaller government, less spending, abortions don't happen anymore, almost everyone owns a gun. This is the best of times for a conservative.

you can't be serious. Bush is not a conservative, the last conservative president was Reagan.

Bush has increased spendings, grown the government... conservatives don't like him and I'm not too thrilled about McCain either, but IMO he will do less harm than Obama. Just like I felt Bush would do less harm than Gore/Kerry and I still feel that way now.

But don't pretend that Bush was a conservative, the mess we are in today has to do with Stupid regulations on banks by Dems and Repubs to force them to make loans to poor people that can't afford them.

I fear we will never see another true conservative as moderates win elections.

Uh............... Bush is not a 'moderate'. Neither is Palin. They're radicals. Bush is a corporatist.

You want to disassociate 'conservative' with 'Bush', but you lost your chance when the conservatives wrapped themselves around him like white on rice in 2000 and 2004.

You don't get to keep telling the nation 'oops', the guy you endorsed to strongly and pushed on the nation needs a Mulligan for the next same mistake again.

McCain's supporters appear to be drifting further and further from neoconservative to reactionary. Violence is becoming more probably, but is still unlikely.

It's a lingering concern in the back of my mind, but I think he'll be fine.

Bush has been very fiscally liberal, he is only conservatice on the moral issues such as abortion/religion/gay marriage...

But if you compared him to Reagan, you would see how much further left he is in comparison.

I never said anything about who would be the gunman. Could be the Nation of Islam, because he slammed Farrakhan or a feminist on her rag, still bitter that he got the nomination over Hillary.. It doesn't really matter. Regardless of who pulls the trigger, there will be plenty of angry blacks in America that day.

Conservatives are deeply humiliated and embarrassed. They voted for the disaster, ruined our country, but because of their titanic asses can't admit they are wrong. The energy required to maintain their state of denial, however, requires that they go into a rage state. The village idiots are under attack and it's bond fire, drum, and shake-your-spear time.

Out of curiosity, have you always posted like this? Like, when you first started?

Yes and no and why do you ask? I have a large number of personalities that all vie for the keyboard and God only know which one will post at any given time. ;)

Really, what would Kerry have done differently?

What would he have done the same? There can be no greater disaster than George Bush. He's the worst we will ever see. It is a near statistical impossibility that Kerry could ever approach the failure level of Bush. But 90% McSame would come close.

Kerry gave me the impression he was wishy washy, nuanced, and indecisive. Aside from policy differences, that is the main reason I disliked him and still do to this day.

Bush's presidency could have been so different had he appointed Patreus 3 years earlier, handled Katrina with urgency, and kept his party the fvck out of the Terry Schiavo situation. These 3 things are what I hear consistently brought up by some of my independent minded extended family, and I'm inclined to agree.

Getting back to the current environment, I'm an economic conservative and social moderate. As much as I hate the religious extremes of the right, the looney left with their anti-gun, anti-religion, and tax on wealth and success policies don't do it for me either. The long and short of it is, BOTH parties need to purge the extremes and focus on economics first. But do it smartly...

Well to be honest I don't think McCain is capable of inspiring anybody let alone inspiring someone to kill.

No shit. He can't inspire people to vote for him yet he is suddenly capable of inspiring the masses to kill for him?

Iraq would have been similar. At most he would have done a gradual Nixon-like drawdown of troops, ending in failure in 2008 rather than success in 2010.

Katrina might have been slightly different.

The Supreme Court would have been different, but conservatives support Bush there.

The financial crisis, well, Kerry/Obama/McCain wouldn't have a clue what to do just as they do now.

Immigration reform probably would have failed.

The 2001/03 tax cuts would have remained in place; they expire on their own.

John Edwards would have gotten caught sooner than he did for putting it to half of Kerry's staff.

What else?

What little I've seen of McCain supporter shenanigans I have seen is certainly concerning. I have to wonder though how edited the videos are. Not that they were edited to say something that wasn't said, but I think the idiots shown are likely are very small minority and many of those saying their stupidity probably thought they were being funny.

That's not a fear tactic, at least not in the same way Republicans use the idea. Telling people that McCain is 4 more years of Bush is pretty mild compared to Bush's tactic in 2004, which involved basically saying that if Kerry was elected, terrorists would kill you.

Was there another President Reagan or something? Because the guy I'm thinking of dramatically increased the size of government, ballooned the deficit and engaged in a lot of questionable foreign affairs practices. The only thing conservative about him was the ideals he TALKED about in his speeches. But talk is cheap, Reagan the President doesn't seem to bear much of a relation to Reagan the right-wing legend.

Edit: And Bush is not "fiscally liberal", Bush is "fiscally retarded". Liberal fiscal policies might involve higher spending, but they also tend to include balancing the budget by increasing tax revenues by the same amount.

of course Bush is a conservative, he's practically Reagan mark II. Infact bush is probably the more conservative of the two.

the financial crisis has nothing to do with stupid regulations on makes such as the CRA that you seem to be alluding to.

like what, the fact that both cut taxes, ballooned spending, etc with regards to economics policy? economically they were pretty similar, when it comes to domestic policy bush was much more conservative imo.

That's true to an extent, but they don't foam at the mouth with anger, accuse McCain of being a terrorist, shout to 'get him/kill him', or chant against in him in anger en masse at rallies.

At present, there is a HUGE gap between the calm focus of Obama rallies, with the rabid craziness that occurs at McCain rallies right now. To McCain's credit, he doesn't really incite it, it's already there waiting.
No they just call Bush and Chenney traitorous lying murdering war criminals.

It isn't hard to find extreme anti-Bush hatred right here in this forum.
