Anyone drive a camry? How many miles do they typically last? (with Pics)

Not really a car fit-it question, so didn't think the Garage was needed.

Anyway, I need a used card and someone I know has a 2001 Camry with 155k miles on it. Looks great and they say it runs great. They're asking $4500 but I'm hoping to go down a bit form there. KBB says $4600 which is always high. Edmunds says more like $3000. Hmm.

Anyway, I know on many cars 155,000 miles is really high. However, I always hear that Toyotas last forever. 99% of the time it will just be used to get me to work every day (15 minute drive).

Would you bite, or would you walk away? I have little money to spend on a car so this price range is about all I can swing right now.

Any opinions or experience?

Make sure you get a service history, or as much as one as possible, from them. Toyotas do last a long time but if they haven't been properly maintained they won't last as long as they could.
 
Yup they last a long time if there is nothing wrong with it currently and not abused.

My grandfather has a 1989'ish Camry that is still running great.

3-3.5k sounds about right.
 
And yeah, it's only had 2 owners, both from the same family. Looks in pretty perfect condition and they said they've had no problems with it at all. Just don't want to be buying a new car again in a year although I hope that wouldn't happen. 🙂
 
The biggest price point for that car is going to come down to interior quality. They could ask for more than KBB or Edmunds, or what have you, if they have a great interior and all the creature comforts it could have come with (leather, for instance.)

You should be driving down the road with a big smile on your face, because you certainly got your money’s worth from that Camry. Consumer Reports (www.consumerreports.org/) says the average life expectancy of a new vehicle these days is around 8 years or 150,000 miles. Of course, some well-built vehicles can go 15 years and 300,000, if properly maintained.
There’s no way to tell how much longer your car will stay trouble-free, but somewhere down the road, even with the best maintenance, a major part is going to fail. “When a vehicle exceeds 200,000 miles you are riding on borrowed time and the car is paying you back,” says John Ibbotson at the Consumer Reports Auto Test Center.

My neighbor has an older Camry...(not sure what year, early 2000's) He drives about 100 miles each way...5 days per week. The car has over 385,000 miles on it.
It leaks a bit of oil...and burns a bit, but he still gets about 25-30 mpg with it.

the mileage is about average for that year. but just don't think low mileage = good. if an old lady leaves a car out in the elements for 10 years with little care, fuck miles, that thing's gonna be a shitheap.
 
155k is high? I thought it was pretty standard for cars these days. I almost have that much on my beamer, but I do have to put quite a bit of maintenance into it. Camry should easily outlast that.
 
It depends greatly on how the original owner(s) take care the vehicle. I know someone who took care his vehicles very well. His current vehicle is over 10 years old and with over 100K miles yet it runs like new and I am sure it will last another 10 years and 100K miles with no problem.
 
A few years back my 10 year old Camry with a little over 200,000 miles gearbox basically exploded or burst and destroyed the transmission. Had to spend a few grand to get it replaced. It was totaled when I got into accident the following year.

i have a 04 camry xle i bought new in 04 and im at 180K miles now it still runs like its brand new.

I change my own oil use only royal purple and KN oil filters.
I get the transmission, coolant flushed every spring along with replacing the belts.

i do need to replace my rotors i get a bit of a shake when i brake when im going over 60 mph.

my car has been very good to me and im going to drive it as long as i can.
