Wouldn't that thing sail faster if it wasn't submerged nearly to the top of the jib?Always keep an eye on the boom.
When the wind turns, it could smack you overboard.

Speaking of sailboats ...

Looking aft down the deck of Gazela Primiero, the largest sailing vessel I have personally helmed, but by no means the largest.

As in Philadelphia's Gazela?
Very cool looking boat but the last time I saw her she looked like a halfway abandoned Camaro restoration on Billy Bob's front lawn.![]()
She has been getting some work done at a pier south of Penn's Landing, so for awhile a lot of the rig has been off her and she's been covered in plastic. But it's often the case with these old ships (and Gazela is over 120 years old now, if you can believe that - she was 103 when I sailed on her) that there is more will than cash to take care of them.
Wow, I knew she was old but didn't realize she was that old. I actually thought about volunteering for that effort, but we took a few close passes while we were sailing on the river, and it just didn't look like anything I wanted to get involved with.
Yeah, the 'more will than cash' issue is common in Philly. This thing is still rotting away down by Ikea. http://www.ssusc.org/
I liked it because their used to be a sign on it (not sure if it's still there) that said "Save the United States!" and that always made me laugh.
