yea, and i could show you news articles about drug related killings in miami that is over 1k miles away from me.

should i be scared to go outside of my house due to this?

that is essentially what you are showing me with these news articles of parts of mexico that are over 1200 miles away from where I'm going to be staying.

and no, i am not worried AT ALL about going to cancun after doing some research. your scare tactics are failing.

your not honestly comparing the violence in mexico to miami are you? :'(

This is a public forum so I'm not surprised that you're standing your ground. However, there may be others who may learn something and won't feel so pressured to do something dumb. BTW, you comparing Mexico to Miami shows your extreme focus on the 1200 miles. They're killing Americans. They're killing tourists. They're killing tourists in/near resorts. To you these things are just statisics until they're not. You're no different from the many students that come to Columbia University and read that New York City is a safer place. So they go and jog in Riverside Park or Morningside Heights Park late at night. When they get mugged, raped, or murdered, it's when they realized that they're not in Kansas anymore.

Because you have this (nervous) belief that the murder and mayhem that is mexico cannot touch the tourist areas. I have shown you via many newspaper articles that not only are the druglords killing Americans but they are killing tourists too. It does not take much of a stretch to see that the combination of the two isn't impossible.
Fact: The very moment you cross the border you have to run for cover because the Mexican Drug lords hate whitey and start shooting at you right away, your best shot is to call Uncle Sam for an air strike and escape while they're looking for cover. Then you have to spend your whole vacation in a machine gun nest fending off the hordes of henchmen.

Plan ahead so the wife and you split guard duty, and don't forget to shout "REMEMBER THE ALAMO!!!" constantly to demoralize them.

It's not a bubble, kid. It's being smart and avoiding dangers when you can. You must be dumb if you don't think the current bloodshed happening in every part of Mexico won't reach where you plan to go. Hell, all my articles are from English-language sources. I wonder what I'm missing from the Mexican sources. Hell, considering the fact that the drug lords are killing journalists in order to get them to censor themselves, I wonder what's not being reported at all.

There's obviously a non-zero chance of getting mugged/killed/accosted anywhere you go, what do you honestly think his chances in Cancun would be, especially in heavy tourist areas? Give me a number.

A) Don't talk to Narmer. He's a 'tard.

B) Pass me a Pliny.

Give you a number? Sorry, I don't work for the Mexican Bureau of Statistics or their federal police agency. However, given the fact that the murder rate against Mexicans and foreigners increases as we speak, why chance it? This was the same guy that listed options in OTHER countries. Why not just go there?

Mexico was always a corrupt, poor, dangerous hellhole, with bad drugs and cheap hookers and rotten police, but now all of a sudden they have some gang wars or something and everyone gets scared? NEWS FLASH a 3rd world country is a 3rd world country.... and that's why we like it.

Stick to Cozumel if you are very worried. Has its own airport, if that makes you feel safer.

Actually Cancun proper is one of the few tourist towns to have issues. The Mexican drug czar (I think it was) was murdered there at a resort last year.

oh, and instead of Chichen Itza, go to Coba. The pyramid is taller, and you are no longer able to climb CI.

If you want to do other tours, look up Alltournative. Great company.

You should be fine, if you go by plane. Have all your papers in line and in a safe place. Don't look like a tourist, even if you are one(for example, just because you are on vacation, don't dress like complete shit and walk around in a bath suit everywhere you go).

Take cash but, don't wave that shit around. This is in order to avoid going exchange places where someone may be taking note of your person. If you must change money, change your money before you leave at your bank or in the, hopefully super swanky, hotel you are staying in where it is safe.

This should serve as a good warning. My GF's mother is always ,gung ho' about going to Mexico. We have gone in times that were considered bad, actually, very bad, at her insistence. However, it is so bad(generally speaking, could be different in Cancun's tourist traps) in Mexico that not even she wants to go now.

We have not been to Mexico in well over a year.

How the hell else would you get to Cancun? 😕 Drive?

Staying in the resort area you should be fine but you'll miss some of the best things about Cancun...namely the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza and Tulum.

Yes. Don't worry about it. Guys patrolling check points in back of Tundras with full auto machine guns don't even let mosquitoes in there. Mexico is awesome, if you got money.

Narmer has officially claimed the title of biggest pussy on the internet. Congratulations. Seriously man how does it feel to live your life in fear?

I'm going to Cancun in December. I've had the trip planned since January. Really looking forward to it. SURE HOPE I DON'T DIE.

BS. Mexico is awesome in places. Behind walls, ranches, and in some cities such as Cancun and many others such as Mazatlan and Lake Chapala. Y'all need to stay away from border towns and go to nice places. There is basically two mexicos one is rich and first world, that's where Americans move sometimes to retire on fixed pension, and second drug cartel infested wild west you hear about.

if you can remember, check back in this thread after you come back. i'm mainly wondering how the temperature will be around winter time in the USA. last time i went to cancun was in july of 07, and it was HOT (but it was good cause i'd always want to do stuff in the water) and i've heard the winter months there are a tad cooler, but still hot (80's).

oh and stay away from Senor Frogs. i mean it is an okay place, but it is basically an american bar in cancun. the other bars and clubs are so different than places in the usa and are much more fun IMO.

We had a great time at Cozumel and would do that again. The snorkeling and scuba is awesome there.
