go do some research and you will be less ignorant on the subject at hand. that is what i did last night and it paid off.

all of the problems in mexico that you are hearing about on the news and all over are happening on border towns on the western part of mexico, which is yes, 1400+ miles away from where Cancun is located.

as i stated above, there was also an incident around early september in a town like 30 miles away from the tourist part of cancun, that happened at closing time, in a strip club, in a red light district, among all locals. not too worried about that, cause that is the same kind of shit that happens in any city in bad parts.

you should probably at least have some knowledge of the subject at hand before you go babbling false information about it.

You just don't get it do you? These druglords are fighting the government. They want the government to back-off from their illegal trade since the federal police began it's operations in 2006. They've been trying to make that point by killing politicians, journalists, police, soldiers, civilians, and migrants. What better way than to start killing tourists in places like Cancun? Worse, the soldiers and police there are as corrupt as they come. But, just because you're in a resort, everything will be fine, right?

I've been there twice no problems. Last time about 1&1/2 years ago. No problems. But I wouldn't take a family there just because of the risk.

I would suggest looking at the Atlantis resort in the bahamas. I would consider it safer and more family oriented with the most breathtaking resort I've ever been to.

If no kids though, cancun is better.

You're the one that doesn't get it. Just because it makes sense to you that the druglords start killing tourists it doesn't mean it's going to happen, and it's not happening. Sure, every Mexican is at risk of being a victim of drug cartels or kidnappers, whether he is poor, rich, a powerful politician or whatever. But foreigners are different. Mexico depends on the tourist revenue so while the rest of the country can go to hell, towns like Cancun are relatively safe. This coming from a Mexican.

I went at the end of June this year. I had no problems whatsoever. I booked my ground transportation before I arrived with Cancun Valet, and they were waiting at the airport for me with a private van; straight to my resort. I left the resort one time for a trip to Chichen Itza. My wife and I had a wonderful trip.

And Mexico values its relationship with the United States more than any other yet the druglords were able to get to two US diplomats (a man and his pregnant wife). They were both killed. They're killing American diplomats. You don't think they can pass soldiers guarding resorts if they wanted to? I hope it doesn't happen but these drug lords are willing to push the boundaries of what is acceptable. I just wouldn't risk it.

And this is EXACTLY what I was talking about. First they came for the Mexican tourists...

Armed gang 'kidnaps 22 Mexican tourists in Acapulco'

_49345336_mexico_acapulco.jpg

An armed gang has kidnapped 22 Mexican tourists in the resort city of Acapulco, the prosecutor's office in the southern state of Guerrero said.
They said the group, who was from the neighbouring state of Michoacan, was abducted on Thursday.
Local media reported they were looking for a hotel when they were seized by gunmen.
Acapulco is popular with visitors but it is also the scene of a violent turf war between rival drug cartels.
The prosecutor's office said it did not know the motive for the kidnapping, or who was behind it.
Director of the investigative police in Guerrero state Fernando Monreal said the kidnapping had been reported by a man who had been travelling with the group.
The man said they all worked for an auto-mechanic company and had come to Acapulco for a weekend stay.
He said he got out of one of the cars the group had been travelling in to buy something in a nearby shop. When he returned, his colleagues had disappeared.
Eyewitnesses said the kidnappers were driving cars with Michoacan number plates.
Michoacan is the power base for La Familia Michoacana, a violent drug cartel active on Mexico's Pacific coast.
The BBC's Julian Miglerieni in Mexico City says that while violent attacks have become more common in Acapulco, this is the first mass kidnapping to happen in the popular tourist spot.

Look at post #31. They killed a pregnant American diplomat and her husband. There is no such thing as "too risky" to these animals.

My daughter is in Cancun with her husband right now. We have their baby for the week so I do pray to God it is safe and that they will come back.

Seriously, they traveled all over the world, he is an Air Canada pilot, her a flight attendant, and when I asked them they had no concerns about their safety there. They will be back next week.

Cancun and other resorts are a far cry from the rest of Mexico. You will be perfectly safe, unless you wander out to the hills & surrounding ruins at night alone.

I'm sure Canada & the US are immune from killing foreigners.

Gunmen believed to be linked to drug traffickers shot a pregnant American consulate worker and her husband to death in the violence-racked border town of Ciudad Juárez over the weekend, leaving their baby wailing in the back seat of their car, the authorities said Sunday. The gunmen also killed the husband of another consular employee and wounded his two young children.

The shootings took place minutes apart and appeared to be the first deadly attacks on American officials and their families by Mexico’s powerful drug organizations, provoking an angry reaction from the White House.

cancun isn't the safest place in the world, but its not the most dangerous either. chances are you'll be ok, though it is still mexico so anything can happen. but its not like americans are getting killed all over the place. its very rare

As long as you don't go looking for trouble you'll be fine. I haven't been there in 2 years, but I had zero problems or even threats of problems. I even went with two very retarded cousins, one who got ripped off from a cab driver trying to buy drugs and one who is a skank whore trying to sleep with everyone in the area and they both got out unharmed.

There is going to be a risk traveling anywhere. For most countries it is a very very small risk and not worth staying at home for.

Mass grave found near Acapulco.
http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/americas/11/03/mexico.mass.grave/index.html?hpt=P1&iref=NS1

(CNN) -- Mexican authorities have recovered 10 bodies and expect to pull out more from a mass grave in a village outside of Acapulco, the state-run Notimex news agency reported, citing police.
The director of the state ministerial police, Fernando Monreal, said that operations at the grave were ongoing.
There was speculation that the bodies were those of 20 Mexican tourists from Michoacan who were kidnapped from a bus in Acapulco in September. The link was made by a video that surfaced on the internet Wednesday showing two men being interrogated about the kidnappings. They say that orders were given, presumably by their drug cartel bosses, to bury the bodies locally, in the town of Tres Palos, just outside of Acapulco.
The mass grave was discovered in Tuncingo, which is adjacent to Tres Palos. The source and the authenticity of the video could not be confirmed by CNN.

Monreal said that it was too early to determine whether the kidnap victims and the bodies were the same. He said they expected to retrieve more bodies from the grave.
The kidnapping of the 20 in the resort town alarmed many, but some reports and analysts, including the global intelligence company Stratfor, have posited that the victims were not tourists after all, but members of a drug

Got back last week. Felt 100% safe the whole time. Didn't venture out too much, or spend any time in Cancun. Did a full day private tour to Chichen Itza. We went into playa del carmen once (our friends went twice). No issues. Felt like any other carribbean destination to me.

Cool yea I'm not worried at all, booked my tirp for Jan 15th to Jan 22nd.

I didn't go to Chichen Itza but I went to Xcaret last time I went. May try another one of those places this time instead of the same one.

How was Xcaret? Where are you going to be staying? Was it relatively cheap? I'd really like to head to Cancun/PDC sooner than later.

staying at Krystal Cancun. that is the same place I stayed before when I went. it is right in the heart of all the night life. you can walk to all of the clubs from there, it is a really great location.

we paid $750/person for a week in an ocean front room + direct flight from the DC area.

XCaret was pretty good when we went. the senotes that you snorkel in were a little underwhelming, simply for the fact that there are SSSOOO many people in there. it is just too crowded. and since it is pretty dark there isn't much to see in there either. the senotes that we snorkelled in with a later mayan excursion were better because it was less croweded and they weren't as underground as the ones at xcaret, so you could see better.

the show at the end of the day however was amazing. it was worth it to stay for the final show.

the rest of the place was fun though, we enjoyed walking around and seeing all the different animals and marine life.

Because you have this (nervous) belief that the murder and mayhem that is mexico cannot touch the tourist areas. I have shown you via many newspaper articles that not only are the druglords killing Americans but they are killing tourists too. It does not take much of a stretch to see that the combination of the two isn't impossible.

yea, and i could show you news articles about drug related killings in miami that is over 1k miles away from me.

should i be scared to go outside of my house due to this?

that is essentially what you are showing me with these news articles of parts of mexico that are over 1200 miles away from where I'm going to be staying.

and no, i am not worried AT ALL about going to cancun after doing some research. your scare tactics are failing.
