I think I'd just call it "disappointing". I generally regret having spent money on it if there were other options available. It's not bad if I'm on the road and just want a quick bite, preferable to greasier options.
I'm pretty sure their meatball sub used to be better, now it's essentially devoid of any real flavor.

People find this hard to believe but I've never eaten at a subway. Didn't seem like I was missing out so I figured why bother. Still need to try Firehouse.

You're not missing out. Trust me.

I wonder why they don't just sub in a couple of robots to make the sandwiches? Seem like it would save a ton of money and shouldn't be too difficult to do. One robot slices the bread. Another plops on the meat and cheese. Then another squirts on your condiment of choice and toppings. Presto a Subway sandwich.

Is Firehouse really that good? There's one near me, but I've never tried it.

They load up more than Subway and Jimmy Johns, but IMHO the quality of meats are not much different. People like them though.

JJ's is about the level of subway to me, the price is higher, but they they will deliver one sub if you want so that makes it easy when you can't leave a place to eat and no one else will deliver for under $20.

I really liked JJ's the two times I had it in Colorado. We used to have a Lenny's here, which was pretty good, but like every other quality restaurant, it closed. I swear that my town will settle for nothing but the cheapest, lowest quality food it can find.

I remember when I first started working in NYC 14 years ago. For lunch I would almost always go get a sandwich from Subway. Something quick, simple and cheap. They would build the sandwich from scratch, putting slices of meat, then cheese and your toppings just like any traditional sandwich shop. It was actually a pretty decent sandwich for $5.

Fast forward to today, and now they use scoops, the meat is pre-sliced and the bread taste pretty damn awful compared to years back.

What happened to Subway? They use to actually make a good sandwich but they suck these days. Anyone still like their subs?

$5 was a lot more money 14 years ago than it is today. Wages remained stagnant however so when the dollar's value went down rather then charge more, they gave less.

I occasionally had the meatball sub in the early 90s because I lived across the street from a subway.

Then I didn't have one until a couple months ago. It tasted exactly as I remembered them.

This is totally wrong. Food chains are not cleaner nor do they serve safer food than other food service operations.

i think what he meant was that you can order a cold cut combo in NY and it will taste the same/be same quality in CO, CA, or FL, etc.

I still go but I don't know why, it's almost like an addiction. After i eat the crap I'm like well that was really bad. The bread like kinda shrinks when I eat it a bit like cotton candy. It's not too good.

Along these lines (and teh main reason i quit) is cigarettes. I swear those cancer sticks decreased in quality too. They just smell so god awful, I don't even want to know what's burning in there anymore. What was a curious and fun habit turned into a depressing way to spend 10 minutes.

Probably "fire safe" cigarettes. A lot of people complained when they switched to them.

They're decent. I eat out for lunch most weekdays, usually just something quick and cheap. Nothing special to eat at Subway, grab a $5-$6 footlong and go.

I will say though I visited a Subway today, and it was freakin amazingly good. Got a cold cut. Bread was perfect, everything just tasted so fresh and tasty. Probably just a fluke. I've been to dozens of Subways and always just felt meh. Will have to visit that one again.

We have a bunch of local shops here...almost all of which are better than Subway. We also have Togo's and Sprouts chains, which are also better than Subway. But that doesn't mean that Subway is bad...

I go to Subway on occassion when I want the Italian BMT. It's a good sub.

I loved going to Potbelly's when I lived in Chicago to get a sandwich. It's far better than Subway, Quizno's, or JJ's.

Subway is just about as low as you can go on the fast food chain these days. Nasty. Even Blimpie isn't nearly good as it was ~10 yrs ago. Local shops are the way to go

pretty much local shops are the way to go. Jersey Mike's is the only chain store i've tried so far that is just as good as most good local places that make jersey subs.
