Anyone actually like Subway?

I believe its called 'confirmation bias.' I notice it too.

ontopic: nothing wrong with Subway. As long as you know what to expect. Of course there's better options, but not always available. We drove back from FL a few weeks ago, its either Subway, or McD's/Wendy's/Burger King/Taco Bell. I don't really need diarrhea on a 10 hour drive, so Subway wins easily.

Most of our posters have no backbone other than the one it can share with the masses.

So many of them are inconsistent of their likes/dislikes here that it's clear they don't practice what they preach.

if i'm feeling like a cheap sub, then yeah subway is a good place that hits the spot.

i recently had a sub from harris teeter for the first time and was really surprised how good it is. it was pretty damn cheap too. definitely tasted better than a subway sub and definitely cheaper.

Subway is like any other huge chain, its average food for a cheapish price. there are better and worse places to get subs from. where I live its actually one of the better places, for those who also live in small areas I would imagine its similar

Absolutely. Favorite go-to for our family when we are looking to escape cooking, particularly on weeknights. We get the foot-long veggie delites, and ask for all the veggies they have; that makes for one fat sub. It's healthier than most other fast-food, and filling and cheap enough.

It's a franchise, so there are bad subway joints, and there are good ones. We just cross the bad ones out off our list as we see them.

I like the taste of Jimmy Johns more, but the wife wants bread other than plain white, so subway it is most times.

I would think that due to how cheap it is to open a Subway franchise, there are far more shitty ones than good ones.

My go-to sandwich is the sweet onion chicken teriyaki with honey oat bread, Swiss cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato, pickle, salt & pepper and sweet onion sauce. Sometimes toasted, other times not. Foot long. Chips and drink and 3 cookies. I eat that shit all up.

OK I just noticed something. When a thread is going in one direction, such as the "subway sucks" direction, others are likely to follow. But when someone says "subway is good" then similar posts come after. Why is that?
It looks like my post is the one that started following the "it's good" crowd.

I was just speaking my honest mind. I was surprised so many people said it sucked.
It obviously doesn't suck beacuse it is the most popular sub shop in the nation.

OK, I see your side of the matter. You didn't want to enter the shark tank, I get it. So you let someone else risk getting chewed up first, then you jumped in while the sharks were distracted.
Next time you can do things differently. You can try the following, and be the FIRST to do it:

Say, "I like subway, and I understand that you people don't agree with me. I am uncomfortable posting this, since no one agrees with me, and I am fearful. I post this anyway out of courage, honesty and self respect at all costs.

Yours truly,
-Edro"

Subway is edible by Jersey Mikes will always get my choice if we're talking about chain sub places.

I remember when I first started working in NYC 14 years ago. For lunch I would almost always go get a sandwich from Subway. Something quick, simple and cheap. They would build the sandwich from scratch, putting slices of meat, then cheese and your toppings just like any traditional sandwich shop. It was actually a pretty decent sandwich for $5.

Fast forward to today, and now they use scoops, the meat is pre-sliced and the bread taste pretty damn awful compared to years back.

What happened to Subway? They use to actually make a good sandwich but they suck these days. Anyone still like their subs?

the meat has been pre-sliced as long as i can remember (25 years), and tuna has always used scoops. i doubt there's been a meat slicer in any subway ever.

at least back then the bread wasn't terribad like it is is now. 13 years ago they switched to 'new and improved' bread which was awful. at the same time switching from the canoe cut to side cut for the bread, probably to distract people from the fact that the bread was now horribad. 'oh, but it's got herbs and cheese on it now!' :barf:

I never said it was fresh sliced. 😛 They used to build the sandwich from the bread up, often given you more than 4 slices of meat per 6-inches.

If I can remember they now have the meat portioned out (i.e. premade and individually wrapped in wax paper). They got their boiled, colorless chicken sitting there in these pre-measured card board trays now. Not very appetizing to me but edible when coming back from the gym at lunch time and want a quick bite.

Thinking about opening a hoagie place called Rubway.

Come in and get a rub with your sandwich! 🙂

i dunno how what they currently do is any different than what they used to do. order a bmt and they still put individual slices of meat on the bread.

only the cold cut, 'steak,' and the cut up 'chicken' is in boats/wax paper, iirc. of those, cold cut has been in wax paper for as long as i can remember, and the 'chicken' wasn't around back in the day. the 'steak' is the only one that changed (used to be in the steam table portion next to the meatballs, i think that weird press-formed plank chicken is in there now).

This thread has me jonesing for a sandwich from the local obee's. obee's is/was a franchise chain that never took off. You go in and they actually have a deli case. They slice your meats and cheeses fresh. Like Subway, they have a large selection of veggies. They also have fresh salads and several soups. It's more-or-less a sub shop, but you can also get things like a Reuben or a hot pastrami sandwich. Very reasonably priced.

Only ever do the club with the works. Its quite a packed sandwich that would cost me 30 dollars to assemble. So it is a good treat.
