Anyone actually like Subway?

I remember when I first started working in NYC 14 years ago. For lunch I would almost always go get a sandwich from Subway. Something quick, simple and cheap. They would build the sandwich from scratch, putting slices of meat, then cheese and your toppings just like any traditional sandwich shop. It was actually a pretty decent sandwich for $5.

Fast forward to today, and now they use scoops, the meat is pre-sliced and the bread taste pretty damn awful compared to years back.

What happened to Subway? They use to actually make a good sandwich but they suck these days. Anyone still like their subs?

Yup you need to get a ton of veggies to make its worth it now because of how little meat they put on sandwiches but it's because meat is so damn expensive now.

If I go, it's for the $5 footlong, since it's a lot of food for the price.

not anymore.

i would rather pay another $2 and go to jimmie johns or one of the other deli type places around.

Far better sandwiches for slightly higher cost. sure they aren't 12 inches but i am just as full as if i had a full footlong from subway.

I like it for what it is. Subway subs are unique, and sometimes I want a Subway sub. If I want a real sub, Subway isn't on my list.

They change just like most corporations. In the beginning they all start out decent, and then they find ways to cut corners.

Are you familiar with WaWa? It's the same thing. In the beginning they sold good coffee. Their donuts were tasty, and their sandwiches were all made fresh. Now, their coffee is of lesser quality. They got rid of the slicers. Their lunch meat is precut at their warehouse by Mexicans. Its all prepackaged garbage.

It makes them more money, so it's worth it to them. We still buy and consume the crap so why should they change? If we held these companies to a higher standard and voted with our wallets, we would see change. We don't, so they continue to short change us.

I still like them decently enough but the cost is way too high. I think a footlong and large soda is almost $8. it just seems too much.

it's all right. you can get something semi healthy pretty easily. not my first choice though. prefer quiznos which tastes better for the money.

Now, you have to buy "double meat" just to end up with single meat.

I don't usually get meat at all. I get their veggie and cheese sub. The cheese is laughable; there's not enough to really taste, but I consider it a salad sub. I guess that's what I go to Subway for; a salad I can hold in my hand.

I don't mind it, if I want take out and want something that is semi healthy compared to a burger, poutine or pizza.

If I was to buy everything I need to make my own I'd be eating subs for 2 weeks and still end up with wasted stuff, so as a single guy it makes more sense to just get one from Subway. There's also Mr. Sub and I find theirs a bit better but pretty much same deal, all processed stuff.

Apparently the Subway sub bread have a chemical in them that is used in rubber products but I don't know if that's actually true. Probably a conspiracy by the gluten free evangelists.

Subway wasn't too bad in the 90s. It's a bit better since they changed the bread, but quality has definitely dropped. Last time I went, my bun was both stale and burnt.

Quiznos > Mr Sub >>>>>>> Subway.

That one was true. The chemical in question is azodicarbonamide. It's used as a flour bleaching agent. It's also used as a blowing agent in making plastics. It's been linked to respiratory problems and is banned in several countries. Subway has since removed it from their bread.

I liked Quiznos a lot better, but all the Quiznos in my town went belly up.

shit ton of subways though.

You left out the part where it is GRAS and that pretty most particulates inhaled will have similar effects.

The whole "chemical also used in X" is such a weasel phrase and is pretty much always intended to mislead/manufacture alarm.

I had to stop eating there because It was so disgusting. I always got a Subway Club every time I went because it was good...then they stopped putting so much meat on it and I was basically eating a Green Pepper, Olive, Lettuce, and Tomato sub.
