Generally agree. Surprised to see such a negative rating for Trump in Wisconsin though. I am not sure a negative "approval" rating for Trump necessarily ensures they will not vote for him though. Surprising how many people, evangelicals for instance, are willing to overlook his personal flaws because they feel he supports their agenda.

I mean the possibility that a lot of people, even people who might have voted for him in 2016/2020, would rather not see him again should at least be considered.

Evangelicals are very open about their support for Trump - he consistently polls extremely high with them so they are not a case of people who claim to disapprove of him yet still vote for him. They are big fans.

They've embraced his various, and numerous, character flaws as virtues in service of their political goals. I attended an evangelical grade school and cannot say that I've ever been altogether shocked at such hypocrisy because it was rampant. Probably why I am instinctually rather distrustful of the overly and overtly religious.

Here's how devious GOP pols are vs their stupid GOP base.

Glen Younkin managed to convince a bunch of people that Virginia's school system which ranks #4 in the country is on the verge of collapse.

That's just as bad as the loons on the other side of the issue. You're assuming absolute integrity without question because you approve of the outcome. While I tend to agree with that assumption, shut up and sit down isn't a valid response.
Name the "loons on the other side" and state what they have done to subvert democracy.

It would help is the Democratic party of Virginia picks better candidates. Nobody loved Terry. The last Dem Gov was kind of a joke. Not surprised.
That's my take. McAuliffe seems to have been unpopular. There certainly didn't seem to be a lot of enthusiasm to his campaign, that's for sure.

Biden is going to be a 1-term president, like Carter. This IMO is just further proof that many voters are upset with the way things are going. Inflation being one. The high price of gasoline. It isn't all Biden's fault, but people don't see it that way. And, the vacinne mandates are going to drive more people to vote Republican. It has already happened. Murphy should had easily won the NJ election. But, many people distrust and don't like him.

I'm going to swing for the fences and make the prediction that inflation will not be a pressing economic concern by the 2022 mid-terms.
Feel free to revisit this if I end up being wrong, but I strongly suspect there's going to be a run back to cash and stable non-speculative investments in the very near future.

As for the issue of vaccine mandates, that is largely only an issue among those who were already going to vote R anyway.

He's gotten considerably more votes than Northam did while winning in 2017.

Hmm.. that is good info. Looks like overall turnout was up. I'm going to go back to the GOP winning this one using the CRT boogeyman.
Older Republicans seem to be very concerned that their grandchildren might find out they opposed the Civil Rights Movement, and are working to revise/erase that history.
Gotta hand it to the GOP, they know their voter base and how to communicate with them in a PC manner.

I grew up in NOVA, my brothers still live there. I know my brother wanted to completely drop the subject when I asked him about the renaming of the Washington football team. He's also let slip some comments about his my niece having to compete with all those over achieving Indians and East Pakistanis. My brother is way more moderate than me, I wouldn't be surprised if he voted basically against Terry. I might just call him up and ask him.

Uh yeah once you start blaming the immigrants for your problems like that, you are voting GQP. I can say with 90% certainty he voted Youngkin.

Dude’s job was raising money and lining his pockets in the process. Why the hell does that make him a good candidate? Even going back a decade when Michael Steele was still popular, the Republicans didn’t run him for office! McAuliffe shouldn’t have been anything other than a DNC chair or running a PAC.

It helps IMO to keep in mind that the real Evangelical agenda is serving up a faithful congregation for grifters and con artists. Not disrespecting anyone's faith, just the corrupt organizations that exploit them. If you've ever attended one of these evangelical churches, then you'd know they are rife with pyramid schemes, MLMs, ponzis, and crooked dealers who like to advantage of good people who sincerely believe a fellow Christian would never take advantage of them (until it happens).
Such is "prosperity" Christianity. Which is 100% in line with all of Trump's personal flaws.

I think this is a more general problem than just Virginia. I haven't soured on Joe Biden, but we all coalesced around him in 2020 because he could win. I'm not saying all the primary candidates were "bad," but few had a great chance of winning the general. In a country of 330M people, Democrats were forced to choose between old men Biden and Bernie Sanders. Lest I be accused of yelling #bothSides, our choices were a lot more palatable than the 2016 GOP primary candidates.

More to the point, if you look at politicians in general, it's hard to find many standouts. If they don't enter public office crooked, many leave under a cloud. Perhaps it's always been this way, but I feel the problem has never been worse at the national or even state-wide level.

I guess we need to come up with crazy clown characters like the Pubs to distract them from other shiny objects. I think many people think this is just a game, and in the big picture it doesn't matter who you vote for and instead of writing in Elmer Fud as a candidate, the Pubs have figured out you just have real Elmer Fud's run.

Probably because the last people that should end up in power are the ones that try for it. I vote we code an AI to make another AI that runs everything.

I can tell you from personal experience that is an inaccurate and unfair overgeneralization. I was in evangelical churches from my childhood to my mid thirties, and none of the churches I was a member of, or attended, exhibited such behavior. Granted none of them are mega churches, some of which do exhibit the kind of behavior you are expressing. However, there are many other evangelical churches which do not do this.

Just speaking from my own experiences growing up in these churches, and from the televangelistic behavior that has become increasingly the public face of evangelicalism. MLMs and evangelicals have become virtually synonymous.
I used to be more kind in my opinions in this regard, not anymore. Trump exposed them for the Mammonists they are.

A somewhat overlooked possibility I find interesting is that due to our unique circumstances many voters are just super cranky in general and are taking it out on the incumbents, whoever they may be.

Also that a Trump return could be much less welcomed than many are assuming.

This is it imo. There is lots of anger churning under the surface. Ds are in power now, so they will get the brunt of the house cleaning, then Rs will come back, also prove useless, and then get driven out of office as the cycle turns.

Granted, the Ds have been particularly feckless since taking office... So a big reconning is coming.

They just needed to pass a bill to fix the roads, not F with anyone's taxes, and get COVID and the supply chain issues under control... and they failing utterly.

Forget about getting outplayed on the social issue bullshit *once again*
