I love Settlers. The first time I played it was before it came here to the US. A friend went to visit family in Germany and came back with a full set. I took 2 years of German so I could at the time read the instructions and the cards. Everyone else had a translation. The game I play with friends is just down right vicious. The home game with family is friendlier. The problem with it is that I can win the game every time with family.

The draws in Acquire are random, but you have enough choices in front of you that there should always be a good choice. It's rate that I feel trapped by my tiles in Acquire.

On a side note, somebody needs to do a high quality reprint of that game. The original one with the plastic board and tiles was great. The new one not so much.

Acquire is pretty random though.

In the mid 90's my friends an I went on an Acquire kick that lated about two years and got tons of new people to try. It's a great game and if you can play well you'll usually do well, but there almost always luck involved as far as being the overall winner.

I think we used to play 3 or 5 game series and total to score to minimize the luck factor. Damn, it's been a while. I miss those days.

Bootleggers is another great game.

Any one play Ingenious? An amazing game for 1 to 4 brains.

My wife and I picked it up at a game store just for fun when we wanted a new game.

Yeah, my wife and I enjoy that one. I got into it by playing the cell phone version, and there's an online version somewhere too (though that version doesn't explain the rules).

It was designed by Reiner Knizia, I have about 10 of his games. Several of his games are available for the iPhone, and presumably for Blackberry/Android/whatever. A lot of his games have common elements, so if you like one you're likely to like others. Having multiple scoring categories and only counting your lowest scored category is something he uses in other games.

Always make sure you have a knight built & fed, and be carefull not to be last as your city size grows.
