Exactly. It was one of those ancient "morally correct" statutes to try and modify people's behavior - without anyway of enforcing the punishment.

In NY, adultery is a crime - a class B misdemeanor, but it hasn't been enforced in eons. OTOH, no legislator wants to be the one to introduce the proposal to abolish the statute (too hot a political potato).

You guys don't seem to know everything there is to know about it. The guy that wants to committ suicide has a terminal-disease. HE is fighting for the right for doctor-assisted suicide for those that are terminally ill. He is fighting for the right to die a dignified death, rather than live out a painful, miserable life. He is the one that contacted the band asking to do it.

That being said, I agree with this person (his identity hasn't been released to protect himself). And if he wants to committ suicide in protest, I don't think there is a better way to alert the politions, and the public (however, the media has distorted it).

The one thing I don't agree with is how the band is trying to make a pretty-penny off of it. I'd rather the dude say "Hey, I'm going to do it....It'll be tapped, but you won't know when or where." Then have this band and having it preformed infront of the audience. That's where it's over-stepping, what I believe to be, the boundries.

is suicide legal in some states?

Are people arrested for suicide?
No...but I'm sure exploiting someone's death might make their family file a civil suit against someone.

MangoTBG, you make some very good points. I, however, have a problem with the suicide being taped and then presented to an audience even if it is presented in the manner that you suggested.

Does fighting for the right to die a dignified death encompass people going to a web page to watch you die?

The thing is by broadcasting you can now say there was 'agreement in those watching' and also get them to possible vote to allow the 'next episode' to air.

In these kinds of things you have more people voting 'NO' that have no idea what they are voting NO too....just that is sounds good to say no to assisted suicide.

I think if a person elects to be put to sleep they should have that right. Have a professional administer a overly lethal dosage of whatever and there is no possibilty that that person will be a ward of the state.
