Anybody have helicopter medevac insurance?

Did you guys know helicopter medevac is not covered by your medical insurance? I hear they charge $50k for the chopper ride. (Groot told me)

I was wondering if anyone has a recommendation for medevac insurance. How much do you pay for it?

I live in S.C. We have a fault line that the experts say will do something... so I pay $60/year just in case.

Bankruptcy is what stupid health costs are for. My .02

MAybe I should drink more soy. 😉

This got me curious as to how that works here in Canada... can't find much info, think inter-province is covered other then maybe paying a small fee in the $100 range, but if you are out of province you have to pay, like this women:

That would suck being stuck with such a bill. Not even sure how one would pay that. I guess you have no choice but to get a long term loan. Maybe a 2nd mortgage or put it on existing mortgage.

What sucks about the state where I live is that bankruptcy statutes are pretty unfavorable. For instance - you're only exempt for $15000 on the equity of your PRIMARY residence (+$15000 if you have a spouse). So (as I understand it) if you have a paid off $200,000 home you can lose $170,000/$185,000 of it.

I had to read that a few times to believe it. No one should ever lose their primary residence unless they commit fraud.

Agree and what state.

I should ask my mom about when I was medevac'd back in 1985 and ask her if insurance covered it or not. I'm pretty sure my parents didn't foot a $50k bill back in the day though.

I got a helicopter ride once. Didn't pay a thing. Just make sure you do it on company time ;^)
Me too.

We were in Vegas and took a trip to the Grand Cayman but storms were brewing. Right as we were about to go into the Canyon, we had to make the turn back. It looked like Mordor from LOTR that we were flying into so I was glad we turned around.

It ended up being like a 40 minute ride and it was pretty cool since we got to go over the Hoover Dam and fly back over the strip. It was like $800 total but they refunded us since we never made it to the Canyon and we were leaving the next day so we couldn't do it another day.

With all the taxes we pay it should be, but unfortunately not. The primary health care is free but there's little things like hospital parking, ambulance etc that is not. That and dental and eye care is not covered, which to me is crazy. That should be 100% covered. At very least they should cover 1 dentist checkup per year, and cover any work that needs to be done. I know someone who had to get all his teeth puled out since he could not afford proper care, that's sad that anyone would be forced to do that. If you have a job you're covered since you'll have a plan but if you're on welfare or don't have a job or self employed, you're screwed.
