It's actually pretty damn slick and nothing like Wave or Buzz.
Sounds like hangout is chatroulette without the cock.
My favorite aspect from the announcement is the Circle feature. It's something that I've really wanted in Facebook for awhile, and I thought Groups might provide that capability. Sadly, Groups are literally just a private wall and such for a defined set of people, rather than being something completely on your own end.
EDIT:
It reminds me more of TinyChat. You can setup rooms and people can come in and chat via text, mic and/or webcam.
But with less cock right? Cause that's what killed chatroulette...
Another feature, “instant upload” automatically dispatches to the cloud any of the pictures snapped on your phone, so that you can easily send them off to any circles you want to share with. “Photos are really the most significant driver of the social experience,” says Jonathan Sposato, who came to Google in its acquisition of Picnik. “For any social effort to make an impact, the photo experience has got to be great.”

A limited-invite beta for a social network? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?
ill invite 5 people. PM me.
Yeah the invites definitely came out today because I looked around on the page all yesterday and there was no invite button.
