I got an invite and was able to cash it in using the Android app.

I added an irl friend of mine and he confirmed.... then added me on Facebook.

Google + is done

the invite only open beta killed it, it was so problematic getting an account initially that they killed it.

It should have been a legit CLOSED beta, then boom release it to the hounds.

It was doomed from the outset. Who is going to switch to G+? Nerds? Hipsters? That's pretty much it. Normal people wouldn't go through the pain in the ass of switching. It's like switching your phone number, not worth the effort.

My Google+ stream scrolls so fast I have to use Chrome addons to pause it. Yeah nobody uses it...

You have to just learn to stop using it like Facebook.

It's actual people. Not sure what you mean by news feeds, like automated updates or something?

my g+ feed is about 1% as active as my facebook feed.

I rarely use G+ but I use the Huddle app on a daily basis. Most of my friends with Android and iPhones are using that and it's a great IM system. Hopefully they can add some BBM like functionalities.
