Update: Sigh, it's been 17 business days since I submitted the claims. Basically they told me to give them 5 business days to process and another 7-10 business days for claims adjuster to look at it. I called again to check on the status today and it looks like nothing has moved on the claim so they tell me to call again in 5 business days.

Next time I'll just purchase items with AMEX if Discover is this slow...

Finally got the warranty claim, they will mail me a check for the full amount of the laptop. Only took 19 business days and 3 calls. Anyways to sum it up:

Laptop broke last month.
90$ diagnostic fee even though I already knew what was wrong.
Repair quote = 2x the original price of the laptop
Sent in claims 2/15/13
Received confirmation of full reimbursement of laptop 3/12/13
Total time was 19 business days and 3 calls.

Is this out of pocket or are you reimbursed for that?

So it's claim check - your $99 = net refund?

Yep Net refund. Will get claim check - $90. Diagnostic fee is part of the 'repair' fee if I decide to get it repaired at that shop which costs 2x the original laptop price.

Bought another laptop with similar specs for about half the price. Not liking windows 8 though, when original laptop had Win 7 Pro.

$99 fee sucks but it's better than a paper weight + $0.

Grateful for the warranty, just letting others know the turn around time and effort required to get it.

Supposedly Discover has a 90 days price match guarantee. My friend saw a price drop on an item he purchased with Discover and 3 weeks later they cut him a check for the price difference. He told me you have to have a screen shot of the price and fill out some paperwork.

I buy most all my large items at Costco. They pretty much double the manufactures warranty. I bought a 42" TV that came with a one year warranty. Buying it at Costco gave me 2 years and then a third year because I put it on American Express. Toward the end of the third year the TV died. I called AE. Filled out some paperwork, and within 30 days they sent me a check for the full amount (less shipping). I still have the old TV here. I love Costco!!

Similar situation. Bought TV from Costco broke while out of their warranty but still on AmEx. First they had me try a repair, $600, when that didn't work they gave $1200 back.

Woot got the check today.

Total time from filing claim to receiving check was: 27 days.

Not as long of a wait like a rebate check.
