Anybody else excited about Christmas time?

Sums up my feelings about the whole thing.
 
My daughter has already decorated her apartment with Christmas decorations. It is a bit early for me but she just might get me started early this year.
 
working retail in my youth ruined the holidays for me.



My kids seem to be rehabilitaing me however. I love seeing their enthusiasm and excitement.

I do hate the commercialism though.


we get the kids all dressed up and go to the hospital that delivered my triplets and give gifts to the sick kids every year. Last year they wanted to go back after christmas and give them more toys because they thought they got too many from santa. I was so proud !
 
Love Christmas...hate the commercial mess it has become. Still look forward to decorating and watching the appropriate movies.
 
My views on Christmas have changed over the years. For starters:

But having kids kind of brings the fun back into it because you get to go shopping for toys, watch them open the presents & be crazy excited, etc. Other than that, I dunno...I switched to a plastic tree a few years ago. I have those compressed fire logs for the fireplace now. It's gotten more...efficient, I guess. Load up Pandora with Christmas music haha.

I don't really mind the commercialism so much because it's more of a personal interpretation. The only thing that has really bugged me this year was going in to Home Depot in early October & seeing Christmas stuff EVERYWHERE. Waaaaay too early :biggrin:

Yeah I think for me, the movies & the food are the best parts these days. Cartoon Grinch, Jim Carrey's Grinch, It's a Wonderful Life, Mr. Krueger's Christmas, A Christmas Story, Charlie Brown's Christmas, etc.

Yeah I pretty much have nothing I can ask for, all the stuff I would want is too technical for anybody to even know what it is. So I just ask for money. :biggrin: But then I don't know what to buy my parents so end up giving them money too. It just cancels out. :biggrin:

Though I find as an adult I'm not really as excited about Christmas day itself, than just the general time of the year, seeing all the decorations and stuff. Christmas day is fun to spend time with family and such too. It's fun to see the kids open up the presents more than it is opening my own.
 
Nah, Christmas isn't that fun for me anymore. Most of my family is gone now so I usually spend it at my in-laws, and it is usually stressful and not fun. I used to love it as a kid though.

Imaging working in consumer finance for the last 27 years. Without fail some idiot calls 15 min before closing on Christmas eve, "I need a Christmas loan." I take the app and tell them to call me on the 26th. "But I need it for Christmas." All the best sales are on the 27th.😛

Going through the camcorder the other night, video when the kid was 2 to 4 yo. "All these presents for me?" Love that boy with all my heart.

Every so often, I'm reminded again why I don't interact with the public.


Still one of my favorites from working retail: Someone came in and asked to get a zero-watt nightlight. I said that the only way a nightlight would use zero watts is if it was off or broken, and that the closest thing was the lime-green EL nightlights that use a few cents of electricity a year.
"No, it's got to be a zero watt light. I know they're here somewhere. I'll just keep looking, thanks."

Years later, I'm still curious about what exactly this person was really looking for.

this is like the plot to the Simpsons episode where Bart gets Santa's Little Helper.
 
I love Christmas, mostly because I have carried on traditions my parents used to do with us to make the season special.

-We make weekend shopping trip to Frankenmuth Mi in December every year (although last year to mix it up we went to Chicago and...well...it was freakin' awesome. Might change that one).
-We also go to a tree farm and pick out a fresh tree.
-I make a super-elegant Christmas dinner with the whole family over
- there's a special Christmas ornament maker we go to and get a ceramic family ornament made every year. My wife and I started doing this when we were dating back in '93 and have one for every year since then.
- I make giant batches of quite possibly the best chocolate chip cookies in the world (they're the size of a baby's head!) and give them out to friends.

The holidays are what you make of them. If you have fun, your kids will remember that and they'll carry on the traditions with their kids.

Obviously they were really looking for a zero watt night light. Things don't have to exist for people to be looking for them.

I'm excited! I'll be putting my lights up and decorating after Veteran's day myself. I usually try and get it all done by the weekend after Veteran's day so I can just relax and hang out with the family at night making smores!
