Anybody else ever get like this?

Today has been sort of an average day, a little bit of excitement but nothing extremely out of the ordinary, really. Yet, this evening I find myself feeling....depressed.

Now, I've got all kinds of crap on my mind lately (who doesn't), but there's nothing that has drastically changed today. In fact, if anything, everything seems to be heading reasonably in the direction that I hope for. And I know it sounds silly and selfish to be saying all this, given the problems that others are facing (even many of our fellow members on this board). I just, occasionally have a night like tonight, where despite whatever may be actually going on around me or in my life at that particular time, I just get frusturated at things...the realization as you grow up that things never turn out quite like you want them to, people don't usually get what they deserve, and that life itself is ultimately more full of pain than pleasure.

My mother has been diagnosed in the past with certain forms of depression, I don't think that's what's going on with me by any means, but I do have to wonder if maybe it doesn't rub off some. I'm content with things right now for the most part...so why do I feel so dissatisfied and unhappy tonight?

Believe me, your life could be worse. You have a computer (something many a person does not have) and you have a place you can talk to. Not all hope is lost.
As Amish one said (although the thread he posted it in was a little more serious than this) "People here get depressed at the drop of a hat"
If you're really depressed, get help. Here is not the place to find it.

yeah its happened to me. Right now, I have never been happier in my entire life; I have a wonderful girlfriend, a job, etc etc. I am completely content, yet there are days when I just want to lay in bed the whole day... For no reason. I attribute it to adolescance and these damn hormones.

I share your thought.

Sometimes I'm normal (no, really, I am!!), other times I feel a lot of energy in me and really jump happy, yet other times I think along the lines of "Who am I, what the hell am I doing here?".

But all in all, considering our environment and circumstances, we are VERY lucky to be where we are today. Yes, you think your life sucks, but in reality, there's million others that would NEVER be where you are today.

Sometimes its just too easy to take things for granted eh.

You have a chemical imbalance and need to seek a prescription for one of the various anti-depressant drugs which are so helpfully marketed by various pharmeceutical companies for our benefit.

Bleh.. yeah, right.

The real answer is: "I have no idea." Maybe you're bored, maybe you need to eat better, or get some exercise, or maybe you just need to get laid.

Fridays I am usually kindof happy and almost hyper for the last half of the day at work, then I usually get depressed on my way home when I see all the other 20 somethings getting together and going out and partying. At least my kids and wife are pretty cool :)

Whenever I got like that - mostly early at college, I found that sad songs helped put me in the mood and made me think "outside" of myself and put things into perspective. (damn, and I was a COM major)

Anyway, it felt as if something was sadder than I was and I instantly felt better.

I love people who think they're doctors. They can pack so much ignorance into such a small space.

depression can be passed genetically. although u may not necessarily suffer from it, you may be more prone to it than the average person

The only response I have to offer is just to say that everyone gets bummed out from time to time. It's perfectly normal. Everybody seems to think of this as some kind of medically treatable disease and you should immediately head for the local pharmacy for some DRUGS. Bullsh!t. It's just a normal everyday part of life that you need to be able to deal with.

I'm dealing with just having quit smoking cigarettes 38 hours ago (and counting). Withdrawals are a b!tch. Depression is just one of the many emotions I have to deal with right now.......:( -kd5-

Heh.. that's what I thought too.. For the benefit of those few who didn't "get" my post, I was (1) making a statement about both the people who are quick to assume that there's always a "chemical imbalance" in everyone, and about pharmaceutical companies who market directly to the public, and (2) saying that the cause could be basically anything.

So, jaeger66, do you care to explain what you meant by your comment?
