Anybody else afflicted by motion sickness from FPSs but oddly not when playing Multi-Player FPSs?

I can't play FPSs in Single player for more than half an hour or I get a massive headache. Farcry, Doom3, CoD, HL2 🙁 But for some reason I can play Counter-Strike (source or regular) for hours on end. 😕

Maybe because in multiplayer I'm not looking around admiring the scenery? And I don't recall having this problem back in the good ole days (Wolf, Doom, Quake 1, even Descent).

I know for me when i play cs i dont move my mouse all that much since theres only a few places you have to be looking at. In singleplayer the environment is changing constantly so you have to keep moving your mouse

this one guy on my floor says he can't play fps like hl2/cs/doom/etc cuz he gets motion sickness. so he just sticks to slower games like WoW 🙂

seriosuly.... if its possible to get motion sick from fps'es.... it would happen in Q3DM17 and nowhere else.... that level defines the whole genre

I get motion sickness when i play games that are TOO SMOOTH with little detail: Like playing Wolfenstein classic at 400 frames per second...

half life 2 was the first game in a long long time that would cause motion sickness for me. then i switched to a smaller LCD and turned down the detail and its gotten much better.

I used to get motion sickness when I played Duke Nukem 3D on my old Pentium 120. I couldn't play for more than 45 minutes before feeling sick. I got alittle bit of motion sickness after playing GTA:SA on our plasma tv also.. but I hadn't been feeling well at all that day.

There's no question that it's possible. Because graphics have become so real looking, the new games trick your brain into thinking that it's real, which brings the motion sickness.

I think the newer larger moniters play a big role in this. The larger the moniter the less peripheral vision of stationary objects your eyes see.

I used to get ill feeling when playing on a 22" Iiyama moniter.

If I'm playing a new FPS or one I haven't played in a while, I sometimes feel a bit woozy and have to limit myself to 15-20 minutes. Usually a couple of these short sessions is enough to adapt and I'm fine thereafter. This is single player; I don't play multiplayer FPSs due to the average age of those who do being about 12 and the fact that sentences such as "y ur 2 plz" and "wut ne1 iz 4 b" give me a headache.

Metroid Prime gave me such severe motion sickness that I sold my gamecube. Only game that I've ever had the reaction to.

I get sick from HL2, then i realized it was the pulsing 60mhz. So once i upped that up, i can play HL2 upon hours 🙂

the only game that made want to puke was Decent.

I had a friend who i used to play head to head with on DoomII. remember when you used to call your friend and say ready to get your a$$ kicked? the the next question was im ready to dial is your game up and modem ready??

Oh man, I was so sick from Decent. I was on the verge of puking. I've never had a problem with motion sickness since that one time.

My dad can't play Xbox full screen. There's something about whatever it is that he's trying to do taking up the whole screen that makes him sick. The largest portion of our 36in TV that he can use is 1/4. It's weird.

I'm ok when I play Far Cry, Doom 3, HL2, etc., but I become ill when I play Chaos Quake for an extended period of time.

ahhhhhhhhhh, so i'm not the only one. Max Payne is the worst for me

i am ok with [what i can remember] rtcw, far cry, splinter cell, cod, q3, ut, and all the hl mp mods that ive tried (firearms, dod, cs, tfc, ns). on the other hand, i am not ok with hl2 and hl. actually ut is sometimes iffy - both 2k4 and plain ut. beats me as to why 🙁.

I am the same way. For example RTCW, I can't play the single player, but I can do multiplayer for hours.

I wonder what it is? is it because multiplayer is more intense and you're more focus? 😕 I wish I knew so I could finish HL2!

I'm affected by this, and one other person I know.
Single player FPS = dizzy.
Multiplayer FPS = no dizzy.

I can play hours and hours of CS but only 15 mins of HL2 before I get dizzy (same monitor/size).
Yes, the monitor size does has something to do with it. The larger the monitor, the faster I get dizzy, but only affects single player.
