I work at Best Buy and let me tell you two things that I have learned:
(1) YOU ARE THE CUSTOMER -- If you buy from an Internet site, you are a faceless nobody and they don't care about you - they already have your money. Buy from a local retailer (and I'll tell you, BBY's cust service is usually better than Circuit City, etc) and if you have a problem, go back to them. Of course, save your receipt, the box, and all the crap in the box.
(2) BUY BEST BUY'S SERVICE PLAN -- Best Buy is already pretty cool about helping customers out, but if you have the service plan: you are their god. That little brochure with a number printed on it is your ticket to practically anything you want. All of the sales people sell service plans on LCDs primarily by telling them we cover dead pixels. This is because Best Buy guarantees the performance of the screen. If you're not happy with the performance, we take care of it. And it doesn't cost Best Buy anything. If you have dead pixels, we sent it back to the manufacturer as defective and get a credit for it.
The moral of this story is to support your local businesses, and if you want real customer service go to Best Buy.
