I've been looking to buy an LCD monitor for a few weeks now, and was all excited about PCNation.com's zero dead pixel policy, but now their apparenlty done with that. Does anyone know of a store that has a similar policy as this (and keep it for the next month) or atleast better than a 10 dead pixel policy that samsung has for its 17-19"!!? It'd be nice to have atleast half the monitor lit up when I buy it. Thanks

10 pixels is hardly half the monitor... if you want an lcd, dead pixels are par for the course. If manufacturers/retailers seriously enforced a 0 dead pixel policy, lcd's would cost twice what they do now. You probably won't notice them in normal use anyway.

Zero dead pixel policy would cost way too much for them, it just wouldn't make sense. The process of making LCDs just isn't refined enough to make flawless monitors.

just buy local....not many places will really look into it if you return it and say it didn't "work" and exchange it for another

I work at Best Buy and let me tell you two things that I have learned:
(1) YOU ARE THE CUSTOMER -- If you buy from an Internet site, you are a faceless nobody and they don't care about you - they already have your money. Buy from a local retailer (and I'll tell you, BBY's cust service is usually better than Circuit City, etc) and if you have a problem, go back to them. Of course, save your receipt, the box, and all the crap in the box.
(2) BUY BEST BUY'S SERVICE PLAN -- Best Buy is already pretty cool about helping customers out, but if you have the service plan: you are their god. That little brochure with a number printed on it is your ticket to practically anything you want. All of the sales people sell service plans on LCDs primarily by telling them we cover dead pixels. This is because Best Buy guarantees the performance of the screen. If you're not happy with the performance, we take care of it. And it doesn't cost Best Buy anything. If you have dead pixels, we sent it back to the manufacturer as defective and get a credit for it.
The moral of this story is to support your local businesses, and if you want real customer service go to Best Buy.

Just buy a CRT man. Save yourself from the imperfected LCD. Dead pixel policy my A$$. Are we supposed to eat everything? If you buy a new LCD, it should be perfect. Zero dead pixels. If nobody can guarantee this, dont buy it. Chances are that anyone with a 10 pixel or less policy wont give you the time of day if you have 9 dead pixels. And I don't know about you, but dead pixels on my screen would annoy the hell out of me. Even 1.

Yeah, I agree with ya. If I'm buying something that costs more than 5 bucks I'd like to have it work perfectly the first time I use it.

True, but newer technologies are almost always a gamble to some degree.

Yeah one dead pixel is one too many for me. I'm sticking with CRT for now, until LCD quality improves. Personally I also think CRT displays still have a superior picture compared to LCD. You're not stuck with one native resolution, and there are NO ghosting problems with CRT. I have yet to see a LCD with no ghosting in games or videos. Even the new 12ms LCDs coming out, still are not as fast as CRT.

There is a simple solution to all of this ... do what I did and buy one that is just barely used. You can find people now and then (here or on FleaBay) who overspend on a new system and then get behind on bills and the first thing they sell is their LCD (because they have a CRT from before to fall back on).

Anyways, if the person is reliable and trustworthy they will let you know if there are any dead pixels or not and you can cut out your worrying. I did this with my Sceptre 19" ... got it on Ebay about 18 months ago for a great deal (about half retail) and the guy had perfect feedback ( which he wanted to maintain! ) and he promised me that when his auction stated no dead pixels he meant it absolutely.

Dead pixel is rare on small size LCD,
I have bought
1 Eizo 17"
1 Philips 17"
2 Philips 15"
3 NEC 15"
1 HP 15"
Only 1 of the NEC 15" has 1 dead pixel.

Viewsonic in China provides zero dead pixel policy for VA series only.

Yes, everyone should only buy LCD and even CRT from dell.com or Best Buy such place where they take return easy for you just need to answer "I'm not satifsied" or "It doesn't work").

Just cover any dead pixels with small smiley face stickers and you won't notice those irritating dead pixels anymore ;)
