Any way to make ramen noodles more appealing?

I want to make myself something to eat, but I'm kinda tired of the standard ramen noodle flavors. They're all really salty and just not that good to begin with. Anything I can do to make them taste better? Basically I want to use the noodles but make a different sauce. I've got some olive oil and assorted spices, so suggest me some recipes that are easy.

One quick thing you can try is soy sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper.

When I make ramen noodles, I add an egg, some frozen vegetables (peas and carrots), and dried red pepper.

I throw the noodles and the flavoring into boiling water, and add eggs, chicken, vegetables, whatever. You can add some hot sauce if you want too. It makes the ramen a lot better.

boil it until it's almost soft (that's the key part, since if they're soft, then they will stick and clump in the wok), then drain and at the same time, the wok is already hot with oil, slap it in there immediately after draining and throw in some teriyaki sauce and soy sauce and mixed veggies and precooked meat and your good. I prefer Oyster Sauce and a little bit of Hoisen Sauce to teriyaki, but that's just me. Then, the final touch... BAM BAM! :p

Boil a little bit of cabbage before you put in the noodles. THen you got some veggies and the difference in texture makes it an actual dish (or at least to your mouth). Something that is easy to go with that is to mash some ground beef/chicken with some chopped green onion/regular onion, garlic and salt/pepper into a gooey thing and put some chunks of that in as an asian meatball thing.

Something else you can do is to make the ramen with only about half of the sauce packet and then drain the water out of the noodles. Eat with a soft or hard boiled egg (according to preference) and top of oyster sauce.

yeah, I was gonna say to just throw an egg in there. Ramen's over-rated, get some of the fatter Japanese noodles (some nice Korean brands too...not so many Chinese ones), more like udon, sooooo much better.

Or, after you cook it, put it in a pan and essentially pan-fry it. My rooommate did that last year, says it's something they (Russians) did. who knows. :)

break up the block of dry noodles into small chunks, throw into a plastic bag, add the seasoning packet, shake to coat well, and enjoy!! A great, crunchy snack!

When I lived in Korea I ate millions of bags of Ramyon (Ramen). My favorite way was to throw some protein in there like a hotdog or two, or some polish sausage. I would use half the seasoning mix, drain most of the water out, then add some sliced cheeeeeeeeeese! It made a gooey, cheesy sauce.

Chop an entire onion into tiny pieces (very tiny pieces) and toss it into the Ramen. You will need at least one onion per Ramen. Trust me on this one.. it is VERY good. Do not knock it before you try it. Putting an onion, noodles, salt bag, and nothing else into the mix will give you one hell of a bowl of soup.

My friend and I survived off of this for an entire semester on our late weekends of drinking beer and watching episodes of Star Trek. The onion fixes everything.

If anyone else has tried this, please back me up on this. Nobody believes me that an onion in Ramen is wonderful.

What kind of Ramen?

I usually only eat Mama brand instant noodles. I consider Ramen pretty much crap. I think the apartment has a chicken flavored ramen package somewhere.

Lots of good suggestions. My ingredient list was a little short, so I ended adding some olive oil while they cooked, using about 1/3 of a packet of the chicken seasoning, and then adding fresh basil and parmesian cheese. It was really pretty good considering I just made it up as I went.

next time invest in some decent ramen, like Shin Ramen (korean brand). noodles are thicker, and it's really spicy right out of the bag. you'll never go back to regular ramen. (either that or Neoguri, another korean brand)

meanwhile, you can try any of the good suggestions mentioned here. i like couple of eggs thrown in with your regular noodle and soup. or you can boil the noodles, drain almost all the water (keep couple table spoon's worth), then mix it with the season packet. you can eat it with some corn on the cob on the side.
