right click on the exe file and add '-d:software' (no quotes) to the end of the program path. it'll force the game to start in software, then you can change to 3d ingame supposedly.

Does the game have to be run at a certain screen size? My sister has an ant game that refuses to run at anything more or less then 800x600. She has to make sure her video card is set to this and also the game to get it to play.

I mean right click on desktop, properties, settings, right click on the monitor that is attached to the 810 and uncheck the attached option. Your profile looks like you're running duals. And did the d:software do anything?

I must be the biggest n0ob ever.

Can't add -d:software to shortcut path. ---> No valid path.
Start --> Run --> Sc3 -d:software ----> nothing.

Thank for your help anyway. I think I'll have to give up.

Edit: Yes the i810 is disabled under properties.

I forgot to tell you, the path has to go into quotes. like this ["c:\program files\app.exe" -d:software]

I was never talking about getting SimCity running, just about the Compatibility Tab. It is there in Win2k Pro SP3. sshot

ea says you're out of luck, but I have this very strong feeling that sc4 is trying to use you 810 gfx. I used to own an 810 board and it was stable as heck running anything until I fired up a 3d app, even after I added a v5. You can always try disabling onboard video in BIOS. but after that, I'm outta ideas. Maybe I'll think up more when i'm not sleepy

I have Windows 2000 Pro on three separate machines: one with sp2, the other two with sp3 and all work just fine with SC4.

Really...does SP3 have the XP System Restore by any chance?
Does XP have the Emergency Repair Process by any chance?

Don't give me the XP>2k sh!t. I have a legal retail WinXP Pro box sitting on my desk. I used XP for a few months or so last year. It was nice, pretty, booted fast, n00b-friendly, and I had to call MS every month because I'm constantly changing the parts on my rig. It was very tiring and finally I gave up and went back to 2k. I actually prefer it "no-frills" anyway.

Big Fat Liar
Please right-click any program shortcut and select properties.

I'll get that apology for you calling me a liar now.

Yep, I just upgraded to Win2K SP3 yesterday, also upgraded DX8 and a few other patches and no dice on the compatibility option when properties for a shortcut or direct on the .exe file. Not in advanced either. Maybe you need to install that apcompat file others were talking about and the it integrates it in?

I have run Win2k pro for a couple years now and I have had SC 3000 before I reinstalled to win2k. I have been playing it with no problems. Not sure why your having an issue...

Oh, and it worked under sp2 and sp3.
