The other SimCity 4 thread got me back into trying Sim again.
Dooh!
I havent played since I upgraded to W2K. It won't start.
Anyone know if it will work?

Have you tried running in Windows 95 or 98 compatibility mode? Right click on the shortcut and check the Compatibility tab. It might work. Hope this helps.

It works fine for me. Running W2k Pro, PIII 1000, 256, GF2. I treat my system right and it outperforms some of my friends' high-end machines. Bah! :p

compatability mode is, I've been told, the same thing as an MS utility called apcompat. you can use that to try and get it running.

A friend gave me this information. Don't know if it will work or not but doesn't hurt to try.

There is an application on the Win2K disk that doesn't install by default called "apcompat.exe" that will allow you to run a game or application on your Win2K machine as if it was under a different OS. This works okay in many cases however not in all. If you find a game doesn't work, try using this app. Most NEWER games will work on Win2K just fine, nowadays

the internet says sc4 should work under 2k.

You can run the original sc on win2k, I don't see why sc4 wouldn't work.

Beats me too. But ea.com says W2K is not supported.

If you look closer, that's a faq for cnc games not being supported by 2k. I've run half of those games on 2k without a hiccup. maybe if we had details about your problem, we could find a solution. I don't think it's a compatibility problem tho because other have gotten it to work on 2k.

The problem is this:

Installation works just fine.
After that, the Startup menu comes up with the 'Play Game' button.
I press play and then menu disappears and nothing more happens.
No crashes or anything. It just stops.

Don't give me the XP>2k sh!t. I have a legal retail WinXP Pro box sitting on my desk. I used XP for a few months or so last year. It was nice, pretty, booted fast, n00b-friendly, and I had to call MS every month because I'm constantly changing the parts on my rig. It was very tiring and finally I gave up and went back to 2k. I actually prefer it "no-frills" anyway.

Please right-click any program shortcut and select properties.

I'll get that apology for you calling me a liar now.

try running in software mode. Add teh -d:software to the end of the shortcut.

Also, try disabling your i810 video and running JUST the gf2mx
