I am happy with my SGS2. I really dont see a need to upgrade anythime soon (I have 2 upgrades available now on TMO), BUT, if a phone comes down the line that can do Netflix in HD and NOT suck like my droid razr, then I will be interested. I swear, the razr is such a POS. The only thing it is good at is HD netflix. I hope the SGS3 is HD and that the app will be in HD.

You have an SGS2 and a Razr? Two different carrier contracts?

Not ridiculous given how long it took the SGS2 to come state side even after international release. Maybe they learned from their mistake but I'd be surprised to see it on a carrier before Halloween.

Ibet T-Mobile gets it September-ish. They're usually the best with regards to a Galaxy S phone.

But yeah, I wouldn't expect to see it on VZW, AT&T or Sprint until mid-October-ish.

That's probably the first time I've ever heard someone not like the Droid Razr. What do you dislike so much? Seemed awesome when I had it.

I agree. I'm pretty happy with my SGS2 as well. It has enough power to be smooth and play all of my MKVs. Plus I think when I finally switch over to ICS it'll seem new/fresh to me again.

Side by side with a SGS2 the razr seems to fall behind in my experience. I've played with my buddy's Razr and though it all felt a little clunky and slow... I think Motoblur drags it down quite a bit. Maybe if he switched launchers it'd be better.

You know, I haven't seen or heard anything that supports this (specifically the S3) and yet I felt like it's always been true. Why is that?
Because verizon has a habit of demanding slightly different versions of the same phone in order to be a special snowflake and fuck over their consumers at the same time?
AFAIK they not launched a SGSI or SGSII variant.

With a probably worldwide release in May, I feel confident that the SGSII will be available from ATT/T-Mo/Sprint(maybe) on or before the Olympics kick off on July27. Samsung has too much advertising money tied up in the Olympics NOT to take advantage of it in the US.

Well that was because they were getting the Galaxy Nexus.

I sure do hope they get the S3, even if only for increased competition on their network.

Samsung Fascinate was Verizon's Galaxy S variant. But yeah they didn't have the SGS2.

If memory serves, they cut the RAM on the Fascinate down to 384MB from the 512MB standard on other SGS1 models?

Edit - The Fascinate was also a cheaply made piece of crap.

You're right. I knew that the Epic was the most feature-filled SGS1 available in the US, with the other versions missing the flash and the front-facing camera, but I didn't realize that Verizon had further crippled the Fascinate by removing a quarter of its RAM. No wonder everyone hated them so much.

So yeah it doesn't even really count.

What defines cheaply made piece of crap? All SGS phones feel cheap IMO. I have not held the Fascinate, but is it worse than the standard i9000? Irealize the Captivate was well made with a metal back cover, but I would consider that above standards...

I don't know how anyone could recommend a SGSII with its archaic screen resolution. qHD was even out by the time the GSII came over to the states, which was all too delayed in the first place.

Don't listen to anyone rambling about hardware, most dual core solutions run GB and ICS butter smooth, including my Atrix which is a first gen Tegra 2. You will never notice any "lag" on a GNex compared to a SGSII. Laggy android phones are primarily single core (snapdragon, etc) running bloated Froyo or GB with Motoblur, Sense, etc. Although, the newer versions of these themes seem to be much better.

Lol! If I don't take a magnifying glass to my screen I can't really see any improvement with higher resolutions.

The Atrix and other Tegra 2 phones are visibly slower than the Galaxy S2 and can barely play 720p HD content let alone 1080p. I'm extremely demeaning when it comes to phone performance but even with quad core phones on the horizon I don't see any reason I would want to upgrade my SGS2, it's still blazing fast and ICS only makes it better.

To each his own, I have had this phone since Feb 2011. You say it is visibly slower and I call that BS. I have no lag what so ever running CM7.1 or the latest ICS beta.

We are taking real life performance, not fairy dust benchmark numbers.

I don't know regarding 1080p video playback and never even bothered to try.

Bottom line, GNex >>>>> SGSII in every way except if you want benchmark numbers, 800x400 is simply a joke in today's market.

No sane person can say they can tell a difference in "smoothness," only spec junkies. I can't tell a difference from my first gen dual core.

How can you say it's that much better when you haven't even used all of the features? A lot of people play videos on their devices (including me) so unless you can tell me the Nexus plays them as well as the SGSII then you look like a fool when you say "in every way".

They're both good phones, but not as many people are bothered by the resolution like you. AFAIC pixel numbers is smoke and mirrors like you claim hardware benchmarks are. Some people notice the difference and some don't... doesn't make them wrong.

One thing I actually don't like about having such a high res display on my Nexus is that the notification bar is so small. The icons of running apps are particularly tiny, making it difficult to see their statuses.

Man I feel old complaining about the tiny text on my interweb doo-dad.

it's pretty ridiculous that you're getting on people pushing stronger soc's while you're just as guilty pushing display resolution over that.
Yes, a higher display resolution is nice but it's all moot when some stuff you may run will hurt in performance.

The 1080p point was brought up and very real. also, game performance is another one. The Mali gpu in exynos blows everything out of the water prior to tegra 3 and snapdragon s4.

Both are great phones. The majority of enthusiasts consider the Galaxy Nexus to be the better of the two.

The HTC EVO 4G LTE is the next best android phone coming out (May 7th), unless you want to wait and see what the Samsung Galaxy S3 brings to the table.

Video review here.

Nice phone, horrible carrier. No point in having a nice phone when its so crippled.

It's taste. High screen resolution on the Nexus vs. performance on the SGS2. I recommend you visit a store and try both before making up your mind. The SGS2 can be found in 4.3" screen which IMO is all the size I want. 4.5" and up I find to be hard to use which is where the Nexus falls (4.65")
