I don't use the software that came with my Avermedia TV Studio, I use PowerVCR. But I lose the functionality of the FM capability of the card because PowerVCR does not support it.

Anybody know of any applications or web sites where I may find something?

Thanks,

LarryJoe, I have the same AverTV Studio and I was wondering... is there any particular reason you avoid using Aver's software? Can you still use the remote with PowerVCR?
Thanks,

Hey Leo,

I find the Avermedia software to be decent, but not anywhere near as functional and intuitive as PowerVCR II Deluxe. The time shifting, scheduling and video quality is superior. You should check it out. As far as the remote, I do not use it. I use a remote by X10 that is programable and basically controls any application or windows function I want. I programed the remote to control PowerVCR and it works perfectly for changing channels, recording, volume, etc.

I had not really missed the FM at all because if I remember correctly, the FM reception was pretty poor. I had also previously owned a Hauppauge with FM and it was poor as well. My gut feeling is that there is just too much electrical noise produced by a PC to tune in a decent amount of FM stations.

However, I have satelites speakers out by my pool that are connected to my PC. This past Sunday was a beautiful day here in the Boston area and I although I wanted to watch the Patriots, jumping in the pool for one of the last time this year was too tempting. The Patriots are broadcast on a strong FM station here and the announcers are awesome, so I wanted to try my FM tuner, but I didn't want to install the whole Aver suite just for this.

Unfortunately, I was not able to get any of the third party apps to work from the link above. I'll just have to fire up that boom box next time around.

Hm.. I just tried PowerVCR and it seems to take over 10 seconds to respond each time I make an adjustment...

About FM radio quality, I actually managed to get very decent quality from my Aver Studio. I taped the antenna in a Y shape onto the wall, now my favorite stations get excellent reception. When the antenna wasn't in such a shape, however, it sounded like crap. Who knows what else affects it..

For me PowerVCR launches immediately and then takes about 3 seconds to display video and another second or two for the audio to kick in. The audio probably has more to do with the Santa Cruz opening the line in port. All-in-all, this is not an issue for me. 4-5 seconds is no big deal. I will admit that I didn't really use the Avermedia software too long because I could not figure out how to time shift. I had PowerVCR ready to go as well and had never used it either. I installed it and found it immediatley intuitive. Also, I may be wrong, but I believe it offers a ton more capturing / recording resolutions and sound quality schemes.

I suggest you keep it installed and mess around with it for a while. I bet you will prepfer it save for the lack of remote functionality. PowerVCR also buffers really well when time shifting. It doesn't skip a beat. Let me know how it goes.

Just re-read your problem. I don't have this problem. It is extremely responsive and stable. Make sure you have the latest patch.
