Hey Leo,
I find the Avermedia software to be decent, but not anywhere near as functional and intuitive as PowerVCR II Deluxe. The time shifting, scheduling and video quality is superior. You should check it out. As far as the remote, I do not use it. I use a remote by X10 that is programable and basically controls any application or windows function I want. I programed the remote to control PowerVCR and it works perfectly for changing channels, recording, volume, etc.
I had not really missed the FM at all because if I remember correctly, the FM reception was pretty poor. I had also previously owned a Hauppauge with FM and it was poor as well. My gut feeling is that there is just too much electrical noise produced by a PC to tune in a decent amount of FM stations.
However, I have satelites speakers out by my pool that are connected to my PC. This past Sunday was a beautiful day here in the Boston area and I although I wanted to watch the Patriots, jumping in the pool for one of the last time this year was too tempting. The Patriots are broadcast on a strong FM station here and the announcers are awesome, so I wanted to try my FM tuner, but I didn't want to install the whole Aver suite just for this.
Unfortunately, I was not able to get any of the third party apps to work from the link above. I'll just have to fire up that boom box next time around.
