All the world's fast runners are short. I'm 6'1" and wish I were shorter because I enjoy running. Of course, I also swim a lot, and longer boats go faster, so....

As you can see, being short or tall has plusses and minuses. Accept your physical self, and work hard on the other parts. :p

By the way, HGH won't do any good at your age. You can put on some muscle, but not height. HGH comes with a whole host of side effects, some of which are not too pleasant. I can't imagine any doctor recommending it in your case.

If you are really concerned about height, marry a tall girl. Your chances of having kids taller than you would be much improved. :p

Good luck.

hey purple, you were funny & not only that you reminded me about castration, which is a real deal & I think funny as well.

If the use of GH will result in heighth or muscle mass depends on skeletal age, not calendar age. For a few % at age 17 it is possible.

Is it a good idea or safe ?? no to both

|mpeg| -- You would probably have to consider trading in your parents or trying to get a genetic transplant.

HEHE, I'm white, blood type O, dont lift weights (but i'm planning on signing up at the gym when i get my license), I stopped drinking caffine since summer, never smoked since kindergarden (long story short, its like smoke the whole pack to make you sick so you never smoke again). I drink lots of water and milk. I'm taller than my mom and a little shorter than my dad, my foot size is like 9 or 10 depending on the brand. Like i said i'm cool with my height but i dont want to diminish anything i could have. I never drank milk when I was younger, I think that was to problem :).

try pull up's.

Hang on to a bar and pull yourself up. Increase intensity as days go by.
Or play basket ball.. provided you get to do a lot of dunking.

Drink Milk and have protiens as much as possible.

<< If you are ever drafted and in the line of fire you will be glad you are a smaller target. >>

Not really. If you analyze the records of those awarded medals posthumously for throwing themselves on a grenade, an unusually high percentage were the smallest guy in the squad.

Is it true younger brothers are always (well, almost always) taller than their older brother? Mine is taller, and I've seen lots of other examples, but almost never the older is taller...

Hawk,

In my family, I'm the oldest of the real kids, and I have one that is shorter, and one that is taller.

They could be thrown on a grenade easier by the bigger guys.
:)

As usual, your analysis and figures are suspect, Russ. Can you provide a link to this?

Anyway, I was talking about being a smaller target, not a blast shield.

my dad said the same thing: if you run a lot, it might stunt your growth b/c your legs are constantly being applied pressure on and if you swim a lot, you'll get taller. so is this true? after all, since jumping often can increase your height, maybe swimming can too.

apoppin,

Link? Anybody who's ever served is familiar with the assertion.

Russ, you didn't mention assertion originally in your post (I heard that before). You said analysis of records of medals awarded posthumously.

So - if true - that would imply the smaller guys are more prone to self-sacrifice.

It still has nothing whatsoever to do with affording a smaller target to a sniper.

appopin,

Apparently you checked your sense of humor at the door. Be sure to get it back on the way out.

You can't do anything to help you grow taller than it is genetically possible for you, but you can definitely do things when you are younger to help prevent any growth stunts. Eat right, dont smoke, exercise, and DONT MASTURBATE!!!

Isn't genetics a bitch? There is no secret to being tall except eat right and yeah ... stop choking-the-chicken. :D

Eat well, because your body will be stunted when it go through a rough time...prolong illness can slow down your growth. I have a niece that have allergies & was sick for the first year of her life therefore she is very little for a 3 years old...she is smaller than most 18 months old.

Growth is believed to depend on genetic & the food that you eat. Like you I was quite short at 17, 5?6? and I made it to 5?11? after college. In high school I had shoes size 7.5in & now I wear size 8.5in...I don?t think you can base growth on feet size like dogs or cats. My father was 5?3? & my mother is 5?2?, but I have a better diet than them therefore I?m quite a bit taller than they are.

Actually its a combination of genetics & diet - When Australians 1st went to the Western front in WWI everyone was amazed at their hieght, when really it was just because the average Australian ate more meat & thus more protein than the average Brit (afterall untill the postwar period of continental migrations to Oz, the average Aussie was genetically no different to the average Brit).

Its the same comparing Australian (or dare I say American) Asians with native raised Asians - the western raised Asians are taller. Because they have a greater proportion of meat (& maybe even dairy products if they are adventurous) in their diet & smaller proportion of rice in their diet (which is the worst of all grains as a source of essential amino acids).

One thing I noticed too, all the tall blokes at my school always seemed to be drinking milk. Whether it was a coincidence, or that the calcium/protein in milk made one taller, or that the genes that made one tall, also made people like dairy foods more, is a different matter.

SLEEP A LOT!!! DRINK MILK!!!

My younger brother (two years younger) is a senior in high school. He's around 6', me, I'm a sophomore in college, around 5'6". Why the height difference? That bastard slept all through high school, except when he played some bball. Me, I got screwed because of football, wrestling and track. Banging up the knees, and cutting weight for wrestling screwed me over. Oh well... life's a bitch, got to learn to live with it.

I'm amazed that nobody has mentioned the REAL reason that men want to be tall - to get noticed by WOMEN! If you're below average in height ... that basically decimates your chance with a good proportion of women. Anybody have statistics on this?

BTW: Asian (chinese) 5'11 145 @20yrs... still growing

At 16 I was 5'7 135.

I'm fine with my height.
