This might be stating the obvious, but it's not so much that jets are overpowered - it's good pilots that are overpowered. I'm not trying to be overly simplistic here but even mediocre pilots could be nuetralized somewhat in BF2, the tools were there. I know, I was a mediocre pilot myself - I had my share of 70+ kill games but I needed ideal situations to get that many - no good enemy pilots, no concerted effort to man the AA turrets, and matches had to be long and drawn out despite the overwhelming air dominance. Otherwise time was the enemy in racking up kills - if an enemy pilot was good I'd have to spend time evading/dogfighting, if enemy AA turrets were a nuisance I'd have to adjust tactics which meant less time attacking ground targets/spawn zones.

Anyway, yeah. It was easy to derail me, but the good pilots could just crush and that's where things got screwy balance-wise.

That all just proves that jets are overpowered in the air to ground game if even a mediocre pilot can dominate. Again, it's not so much the specific power of their ability to attack, their bombs should of course be able to destroy anything with a direct hit, but their ability to fly back, reload bombs and get back to hit the target again in 30 seconds is the problem. 60 people playing the role of target for 4 pilots. On maps like Wake why not drop the pretense and instead of tickets just have it where it's the first team to get 250 jet kills; it would work out to the same.

If you have a good ground team you can still win the game. It's not all about pilots.

It's in my signature.

You got all your kills with Armor.

I would rape you badly on air maps. :whiste:

Speaking of the stats in your sig, 85% of your total kills are from jets, and 7% from helicopters, for a total of 92% of all kills coming from aircraft. That's not biased at all for a discussion of aircraft balance.

Ahhh. This is my second account only for flying in some servers and dogfight. My other account is a 3 star general with a mix of ground and air.

I have about 4 other accounts because of pub servers won't let me fly without accusing me of cheating.

No, Tequila Avengers, when the game first came out. Great group of guys, but everyone, for different reasons, went separate ways, for BF2. Don't know about other online games or communities. My only tie was to BF2.

I loved BF 1942 (old school). like BF Vietnam, and am liking BC2 from Steam. Hopefully BF3 will be awesome.

Would like it if some game, COD, BF, etc... returned to WW2

Not really. You just need a good pilot on the other team with dogfighting skills to counter. When I played DC / BF2 competitively, sure the good pilots could swing matches, but when you have another good pilot in the air flying against them so much of their time is spent dogfighting it relieves a lot of pressure on the ground. It really isn't THAT different than if a tank was rolling around and nobody decided to shoot at it. I will concede that the quick runway flybys are perhaps a bit excessive. I would prefer a few more bombs on the planes that are more lethal and significantly longer reloading times at the runway. I think the runways might need some degree of automatic AA if that were the case though since a plane on the ground rearming forever is basically a free kill for the other jet.

What's funny is, since it's been so long since I've chatted with any of them, I figured they vanished & parted ways. Apparently, according to the Steam forums, there are some odd 45 active members...but they're not playing BF2. Cool to see they're still alive & kick azz & taking names.

I remember the following sequence...1 > 2 > 4 > 8. Good times.

I really, really hope BF3 is just a better version of BF2 (minus the bugs) & better graphics. That would be...Epic.
