Any reason NOT to raid 0 my two raptors other than possible data loss?

Yes, it double's your space, thats why I use it.

You still get the same amount of space as if you were to not have them in a RAID-0 array. The only difference is that they would appear as one drive.

Do most people in this place still not back up their systems??? There is no reason not to do something if the only problem you could have is that you would lose data. That is why you do weekly backups to another drive.

Well its a bummer it really makes that little difference, at least according to all of you here.

I was fully aware the difference wouldn't be much, but in that G4TV "Ultimate Gaming System" for instance they did Raid 0 2 raptors so I figured if you have them, may as well do it.

Not sure if I will now, will have to re-read reviews on it. I don't need more storage than these two will provide though.

just try it. its the only way to get your own opinion.

just remember with 2 74gig drives in raid0 you only have 74gigs of space.

Duh!! Wrong!! with Raid0 you have the full 148gig or actually 138gig available

And if you don't backup your data you don't need to be running raid0. But I have been using raid0 for years without a single failure. And with the MTBF rates in the hundreds of thousands of hours on raptors your chance of failure is pretty slim if you know what your doing. 10,000 rpm drives run hotter than normal drives and most people that have problems stack them on top of each other in a poorly vented case. I seperate them and always use active cooling on each drive in a well vented case and have never had a problem.

I frequently work with large photoshop files 15-100mb and raid0 makes quite a difference in load times. You also see quite a difference in Video editing large files of several GB's

And try and do this with a single drive
