Any reason I shouldn't buy an Acura TSX?

TL rocks as well, so if you have the spare $6k to dump onto the car, I would get that instead since it has so many nifty features.
I had a RSX-S for ~1 year, was gonna get a more luxurious car since I'm such a dumbass, but being the young dumbass I am, I decided to go with the Subaru WRX STI instead. Harsher ride, but fine times indeed everytime I drive.
You mention the "nifty features" of the TL... what are they? I honestly don't see the difference between the TSX and the TL other than the engine and the sound system.

IMO the tsx looks better
I agree there as well. The front-ends are almost identical, but the back end of the TSX looks better.

I like the TSX... but I really feel it's overpriced for what you get. For the same price you can get a Nissan Altima 3.5SE-R fully loaded. Which by the way you will find much roomier than the TSX and sure as heck more powerfull.

don't forget that nissan isn't in the same luxury class as acura. you'd need to compare infinity with acura, or honda and nissan.

It's a nice car, but I think I would quickly grow frustrated with the lack real grunt.

Why? I don't see how a TSX is more luxurious than a fully equipped Altima?

i say he gets a slightly used g35 instead...much better bang for the buck IMO...but its not gonna be new...

I agree that for $25k a used 2005 G35 is an outstanding value. It's got some serious meat under the hood and offers equal luxury goodies to the TSX.

But as was said, it is used, not new.

acura is the luxury division of honda, and infinity is the luxury division of nissan. of course the luxury divisions are going to cost more. i don't think it's fair to car companies that aren't in the same class.

Why because the car manufacturers say so? I think it's perfectly fair to compare like quality cars regardless of who makes them. I wouldn't compare a TSX to a Ford Fusion... but a TSX to a well equipped Altima seems like a perfectly reasonable comparison to me.

Check ebaymotors. There's a couple 2005's there for 25k-26k. At least *listed* as a clear title.

I do agree with you Doboji, one should compare all ~$30,000 cars together. It shouldn't matter if it is made by Honda, Acura, Nissan, etc. But, you are comparing a compact car (Acura TSX) to a mid-size car (Nissan Altima). That is a pretty big difference. Most people decide on a car size, and then start comparing cars. You are perfectly fine to compare different car sizes, but it just isn't normally done that way. If you do the stat comparison, they aren't too far off (when considering the fully-configured Altima). But if you sit in each of them, the Acura just gives a feel of quality - a feeling that the interior is made with the best parts instead of the cheapest parts. That feel just can't be put into stats.

I live in the midwest, and come winter, the FWD will be a welcome feature. I know some will argue that RWD is better in the snow, I've heard it before, and I 100% disagree.

in that case i totally agree with you.

i've got a 2004 TSX. no regrets at all. 200 hp is more than fine for my purposes, it gets enough appreciative looks to stroke your ego (if that's a concern), and the mileage is actually pretty decent (i average 29-30 mpg).

the 91 octane requirement is a downer (especially when that means i have to buy 93 b/c there's no 91 offered in MD). but think of it this way: you're paying the same for gas in a TSX as you would for a car that takes 87 octane and gets 27 mpg.

Problems with the Altima:

1) Looks. I doubt you'll find anyone that thinks an Altima looks as good - especially inside - as the TSX, unless you get the SE-R version, but then I'm adding another $1,000. Plus, inside, the TSX is leaps and bounds ahead of the Nissan IMO, partly (but not solely) because of that orange lighting.

2) Ride quality. I know it has more HP, but it has torque steer like MAD. Even outside of that I thought the overall ride of it was fairly pathetic, but of course, that's just MHO.

3) Room. Less room than the TSX, and no I'm not joking. I think the seat goes back just a little more in the Nissan, but the dash comes out funny on it. My knees rest in a little nook, and it's not very comfortable. This was the ultimate reason - as this was the only other car that I've driven that I can fit in with a sunroof - that I ruled it out.

4) Sound. Doesn't include an MP3-compatible changer, or bluetooth.

Just fyi, I'm not just shooting down every idea that people throw out, but I've driven a LOT of cars, and already know about them.
