Any place to find how a batch of E6600s overclocks?

ummmm if you goto xtremesystems.org/forums

members will post up batch numbers once in a while to warn other members to stay away from.

So far from the looks of it

Only good NEW E6600 batch will have the letters A B G

I hear F's are absolutely terrible, and G's are slightly better then F's
A's would come next, and the best is B.

The 4ghz clocking E6600's are old week B bins from what ive seen so far.

I'm trying to determine which number to look at for my processor. SiSoft Sandra sas:

Revision Stepping: F/ 6 (0)
Stepping Mask: B2

Do I have a B or an F?

BTW.....can only max out at 333x9, have tried multiple combinations including raising Vcore to 1.55v, but have given up for 3.0ghz on stock voltages/Zalman 9700 (Asus P5B-Deluxe, G.Skill 4-4-3-5 @ 5-5-5-15). Kinda unimpressed with overclocking capabilities, but it still blows anything that AMD has right now, so I'm OK.

That's actually the exact same setup I'm using, except for a Tuniq Tower instead of the Zalman. I'll let you know my results when I get it all put together.

you can tell what batch you have by looking at the retail box of the cpu or IHS of the cpu.

Where is a list of which batch is decent for OC? I've been looking for some time and can't find anything definitive....I must be missing something.

what do we look for on the box? The L640A822 number? How do we determine which batch it is?

nice data

Umm.. why not just find it out yourself? Unless you get to see those numbers before making a purchase, there is no difference. I have just installed a Q6600 and it's a week 40 and F batch. Will post results later.

yikes! an F batch

From personal experience, most E6600s will go 3.6ghz and if you're lucky enough to get a good batch you could go higher. Just don't expect 4ghz with air cooling!

I've built 5 E6600 machines and all of them did 3.5-3.6ghz but no more.

Hope you have better luck than I am, my Q6600 is an F batch, can't get stable past 3.15ghz. I am using 1.425v for 3.15ghz, and even 1.6v doesn't get me stable at 3.2ghz. These things sure do run toasty too, but it's bareable on water cooling.

I can't say the E6600 units have impressed me with their overclocking abilities.
Generally, it seems as though the lower multiplier processors overclock further.

Called EVGA and requested a replacement RMA for my board. Kinda disappointed because I grew to like this board (original NV reference before quad-core revision). But I can't even OC 50MHz over the stock so it leaves me no choice. EVGA's service is, once again, top-notch. Not only their tech support team are more knowledgeable than any other, but also they're decent (humanly).

While waiting for the replacement, all I can do for now is undervolting and so far the result is promising. I will be thrilled to have a stable 3.20GHz with reasonable temps. Will make a thread shortly.

A database on HardOCP forums for Core2x overclocks. Has roughly around 200 entries. Done a quick check to see if this was posted, didn't see it.

I have a "G" e6600, it won't do a mhz higher than 333 on my Asus P5B-Deluxe. Maxes out at 3.0ghz. I have tried higher voltages, different multiplier/FSB settings, nothing. But, I can get a 20% overclock on stock voltage, so what can I really say. BTW.....cooling with Zalman 9700, 30C/~45C.

I have a L646G e6600 that I just got. It boots into Windows @ 3.2GHz with 1.5v (probably not prime stable), and I can't seem to make it go further.

the xeon x3220 I just got is an L640 F batch....Oh well, here's hoping I can undervolt it down and run silent at 2.4
