Born Again is their best.

It's just matter of musical taste, but "Born Again" I consider worst BS album and worst album with Ian Gillan on.... I do have LP in my collection, because I do collect Deep Purple(200+ albums of DP, solo and related stuff), and "Born Again" I consider worst album with Ian Gillan in his career. Even "Seventh Star" with Glenn Hughes is way better...and not worst album in Glenn Hughes career...
BS with DIO? I could say it was great - these 2 albums...
Tony Martin's voice somewhat close to Ronnie JD, I like BS with Tony Martin too...
I think, first 4 BS albums are great, but I'm not Ozzy fan...
Anyone have seen BS with Ray Gillen(ex-Badlands)?

CD??? lol. If you want a real "earliest edition", get on ebay and find an LP.

Black Sabbath is more then just about the music, its about an era. To really appreciate the era, you need an LP, and not a CD.

Some years ago, someone in Goldmine magazine asked a question: "What should I buy, LP or CD?"

The answer was: "If you want to just listen a music, you could buy a CD, if you want to listen a music and own a piece of History- you should buy LP"

Needless to add, LP's sound way better than CDs, but collecting LPs can be very expensive, not everyone could afford. Even some BS LPs can be very expensive, needless to say, even hard to find....

I'm sorry, but you're wrong there. It has been proven that CDs can sound every damn bit as good as LPs. Now, modern CDs are mastered loud as fuck and have very little dynamic range, but if you put the same exact recording on an LP and a CD and have them send a line output to the same amplifier you would not be able to tell much of a difference, if any. Just google "CD vs Vinyl" and look at some of the articles. In the end it's really just preference, if a CD is not warm enough for you then just hook up a high-end CD player's line output to an analog vacuum tube amplifier and it will make the sound warmer than that of a digital amplifier.

Born Again was interesting. It was heavy and it has some decent tracks (like trashed and zero the hero). However the mixing was pretty muddy, album cover sucks and Ian screams just a little too much to get on my nerves.

I would say the worst Black Sabbath albums are Forbidden, Technical Ecstasy and Born Again. But even these are better than anything lady gaga puts out

Bests have got to be Heaven and Hell, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (my favorite) and Paranoid. Headless Cross was a solid album too

Gillian's falsetto galore is what makes it so awesome. Just listen to Disturbing the Priest. Pure ear-shattering heaviness.

I'm a big metal fan and I've tried to enjoy Black Sabbath, but I just can't get into it...at last not yet... Any recommendations for the Black Sabbath newbie?

What kind of metal do you typically listen to?

Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Fear Factory, Rammstein, plus some relatively unknown old and new metal bands (Mastodon, Amon Amarth, Trivium, Gojira)

Rammstein...bwuahaha

I'm a fan of the Ozzy and Dio era. I lost track of them after Dehumanizer...

is this a real thread?

Anyone else like a critically acclaimed, incredibly beloved, and ungodly influential band?

The first two Dio-fronted albums (Heaven & Hell and The Mob Rules) are both fairly accessible and straight forward.

Dio is awesome..."You can WHIP IT, WHIP IT GOOD!"

I love those cone heads.

They are making a come back, they aren't dead.

Yes it is. There are quite a few people (Read: Fucking retarded kids) who I know who would prefer to listen to today's shitty, synthetic, manufactured pop music than Black Sabbath.
