We're waiting on HL2: E3 which should wrap up the HL2 setting and this story arc. There's been very little news about it though and we're pretty much in the dark on an ETA.

five years from now hl2 episode 3 chapter 1 the first of 10 chapters will be released. Going to a chapter type distrobution of content will allow them to release content cheaper and more frequently.

It's my observation that due to a shift in what kinds of games are popular, Valve has put Half Life and similar types of games on the back burner and is more focused on stuff that sells far better and take considerably less time to develop: multiplayer focused games such as Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress.

Half-Life is a huge seller too. I'm thinking that, being Episode 3 and the final segment of the HL2 story, they're shooting for something special and want to implement it right. At least that's what I hope is the case.

It took valve 18 months to release ep1 and about 16 months to release ep2. It's been 2 years and 4 months since then, and valve still hasn't come up with anything, not even a hint of what's to come. Personally, I'm very very frustrated...

Agreed. Single player FPS games are on their way out and that's fine by me because I'm bored of them.

There's more chances to see L4D3 come out next year than anything related to Half-Life in the next two or three years.

I know that the HL2 team strikes me as particularly passionate about the story they were trying to craft.

I'm led to believe that either:

1) they're making something REALLY special and are being extra careful to not spill any news

or

2) the higher-ups at Valve have forced the project onto the backburner in light of other things that are more profitable

Now that L4D2 is out, what exactly is Valve working on? The Valve wiki only lists Hl2:E3 and Portal 2 and I doubt their putting a lot of resources into Portal 2.

Then you've been playing the wrong games. MP has it's place, but that shit is what gets boring, running around and shooting people in the same ways, over and over again.

I'll take a well crafted story any day.

Same. I'm not dying to play HL2 - Ep3 because I want to shoot another headcrab. I'm dying to play it because I can't wait to see what happens!

The last game Valve produced that was remotely worth playing was the games in the Orange Box package, nearly 2 1/2 years ago. I'll be excited if we hear anything about HL2:Ep2 but Valve is effectively dead to me for now. Such a shame.
