I have a ATI 9800 non-pro.

Stock speeds:
VGA Core Clock 324 MHz
VGA Memory Clock 290.0 MHz


Whats a 9800 pro rated at for the Memory clock?

I also tried to run the core at 360 MHz/ 350 Mem, which caused my PC to crash with a bugged up display during 2001 3d Mark.

Maybe it is just powerstrip :/

My Current setting is 350 core/310 mem and getting a score of 14,500 . Maybe If I could push the memory a little bit more I can brake the 15,000 mark which will be around 9800pro speed.
 
Bah, I can't set the memory any higher without major artifacts during games.

I may be able to overclock the Core more, but the memory on this card seems very limited to overclocking.

Can't fully read the name of the chip without taking the card out. The name starts with "In" I think.
 
It's Infineon memory. That's why you can't go above 310MHz. I have Infineon 3ns and 300MHz is the limit for mine. It topped out at 285MHz until I put a large cpu cooler on the gpu, now it goes to 300MHz. The improved core cooling reduced the memory temps, enabling me to increase the memory overclock.
You know, the core overclock will increase your 3D performance the most anyways.

I'm disappointed ATI sold me a card with slow memory. I would maybe expect something like that from saph or powercolor, but ATI? Bah.

Should of got a Crucial ATI 9800 with the 2.8 ns memory.
 
I use the omega driver, which has RadClocker built in. RadClocker adds a Clock tab to advanced display properties. It also has an option to automatically install the 9500>9700 or 9700>9800 hack when you install it.
Alternatively, you can just install RadClocker while using the ATI drivers. You can also use Riva Tuner, Rage3D Tweak, or others.
The omega drivers are optimized for image quality so they are great for gaming.

Is that the non-pro, because i just got my dell that i ordered with the 9800 non-pro?

What model is this one, meaning, who built it, ATI?

Do you think the memory is better than what best buy card uses?

What program did you use to overclock and did you have to install any additional cooling units?

I'll just overclock the core. Even though right now I haven't had any troubles playing any game with max detail. I run 1024 x 768, so it is not like I'll need the faster ram for rendering a large res. screen. I don't even think the pro version would be needed for my monitor.
 
what fps are you guys getting on your games, please list your system specs also.
I am asking because i think mine are too low, maybe its because i am downloading a movie.


Also, please tell me your 3dmark scores if you have them down somewhere.

With the stock clock speeds Quest, I get 14000+ in 2001 3dmarks. This is off a 2.1 ghz AMD barton.

I have all Open GL/Direct 3d set to performance settings while running the marks.

I also have this page for UT2003 benchs. These are with 4x/16x settings with High texture detail.
Results

I get a average of 100 FPS in each map with 4x/16x AA/AF quality settings. In heavy bot matchs the frame rate will drop down to anywhere from 60-80 FPS.

With the core over clocked to around 365 Mhz ( from 310 default) I get maybe a 200-500 point difference in 3d marks 2001.

Dell non-pro, yes. Made by ATI. The best buy card is the same thing, it's pot luck whether you get the samsung 2.8, 3.0 or the (crappy) infineon memory. No additional cooling, using Radclocker to o/c.

365 core isn't that big an overclock. The memory seems to be the most limiting factor, for most. My core is at 420, starts getting corrupt at 430. I've seen people as high as 450+.

A 9700 core will have some difficulty reaching that clock speed but certainly not the 9800 series. The memory differs from the core. Just like iwearnosox said, when buying a 60-100 dollar cheaper non-pro compared to the pro version , expect to get the cheaper RAM.

There are four RAM chips surrounding the video cards Heat Sink/Fan and Core unit. There should be the brand name of the memory labeled on those chips.
