I have this micro center rebadge drive as well, and I'm having a heck of a time trying to update the firmware. I've tried on a few systems with no luck. On one system it would just freeze up the system, on another it would not find the drive, on a third it would start the flash process but then fail to "download" it to the drive etc.

For those of you who successfully upgraded the firmware, after the upgrade, what does the adata app show as the firmware after the upgrade? What OS / mobo did you use to do the flash?

Using Win7 the trick for me to have success was to run the flash program in WinXP mode.

Weird, I've tried to do the flash on just about every system configuration I can think of, but still no luck, including using the "xp mode" or "vista compatibility mode". All my attempts on windows 7 have been on 64 bit systems though. For those who did manage to flash, were you able to do it on a 64 bit OS or 32 bit OS?

I finally got it. I plugged it in to Sata Port 2, started the system up with AHCI using another HD on SATA Port 0 or 1 with Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit on it which was set up from early on with AHCI so had no issues with it being enabled. I no longer have issues with sleep. I don't think I even did any compatibility options. It just came on and after it finished did a reboot automatically (it warned before I started that the system would do a reboot and to close all programs.)

Mine would hang on block 855 indefinitely (running it in Vista SP2 or XP SP3 both 'detected' the drive and hung at the same place), but after a reboot showed 3.4.6 and seemed to work fine - but it still did the sleep bug, even after a Win7 reformat. Going to probably test it on a different chipset to try flashing again.

edit: wow, never posted on this login apparently!

okay - did it again on my evga p55, AHCI, intel RST installed, S599 plugged in as a tertiary drive to the main two. it worked first try, rebooted normally. firmware-wise, doesn't show anything different than before (it showed 3.4.6 even after the hang/reboot), but at least i got it it to go through with a reboot instead of having to punch it myself. :)

going to try reinstalling OS again on this - everyone else has had the sleep bug fixed after this 3.4.6?

Every time I changed the BIOS to AHCI it wouldn't boot off the SSD, my primary drive. I was able to change the BIOS to AHCI and boot off a "Windows LiveCD", run the firmware update, then change the bios back to IDE, then the firmware update took. SSDlife now shows 100%, HD tune does give temp warnings but I don't think they are valid.

Good luck

honestly out of all of my sandforce (i have a few i resell these things; they come for free) and i have to say the firmware that is on the G2 is the BEST there is. It's not perfect but many larger names are running much buggier versions. And that is why i'd rock it at home but not for business use.

but for the most part you will be happy after the firmware patch. they did a bit of testing and timer tweaking to hit most users issues.

After trying just about every variation or hardware and OS out there, I was finally able to flash to the latest version. For anyone still having trouble, here's what I used:

Motherboard with a P35 chipset.
Set AHCI mode "on" for SATA ports
Hooked up spare SATA drive on port 0
Installed Win 7 Ult 64-bit on the spare drive
Hooked up S599 SSD drive on port 1
Disabled UAC
Did "run as administrator" on flasher program
Voila, it updated and rebooted.

How can I run this firmware upgrade if I am running linux ?(Ubuntu 10.10)? As far as I can tell, there is no firmware updater that runs on linux. If there was one for DOS, I'd be fine, but there isn't even one of those.

I sent an email to ADATA support, but haven't heard a reply. It's been a couple of days now.

Any thoughts? I tried to get "Windows XP USB Edition" to run off of my USB flash drive, but it doesn't install properly (not bootable).

I'm at wit's end here. Thanks!

Found this thread, my first post, great info, thanks! My Rebranded Adata drives updated and all I can say is I love the performance. I have not run into the sleep issue that I have read about. I have updated to Win 7 SP1 and I wonder if that has addressed sleep issues or is it just a Sandforce hardware issue?

I installed an adata s599 yesterday and installed win 7 ult x64 in around 10 minutes. SP1 installed quickly as well. I also flashed the firmware to the newest version w/o issue. So far I'm happy with this drive. Mine also has the 100mb system partition on it.

Maybe I'm just thick-headed... but where are you guys finding the firmware update? Navigating through the Adata site leads me to a "Not Yet Available" messsage when looking for S599 downloads. Following the link earlier in this thread leads to the same message.

I thought maybe they were getting ready to release yet another new firmware update and had removed the previous, leading to the message. I doubt that's the case if Puffnstuff was able to download and install it this past weekend. I've been seeing the same message since I purchased the drive on Friday.

Any ideas?

True I just checked today and the download is gone. Maybe this is a sign of a new firmware to come. My netbook has crashed 2 times coming out of sleep.

Just spoke with AData USA tech, said new firmware will be up tonight or tomorrow. It will be 3.4.4 which he said they found to be more stable than 3.4.6. Also, he mentioned they may put 3.4.8 beta up for testing.

So I would hold off on 3.4.6 for now. He said it is a non-destructive upgrade.

Thanks for the heads up... So 3.4.4 technically a role back... But if it fixes the sleep bug that works for me... Again thanks for the leg work in calling them.
