This error is very interesting, but I think that the procedure was good what did you do.
I made the upgrade my Adata S599 firmware from 3.0.1 to 3.4.6 five hours ago (and there was no problem -> the update program was working correctly.)
You should try to turn off the option called UAC (User Account Control in Control Panel). After that you have to restart the operation system.
In the end you should attemt again the full procedure. There is an important thing: you musn't make the flash procedure from SSD, only from the another HDD!
If you read this message or your attept will be succesfull please give me back a signal or a little message.
Best regards, Ronnydown
all sandforce drives have the same problems. my callisto deluxe - same problem just not as frequent. draw your own conclusions.
this is new firmware - it works great. just have to make sure you have ahci mode - MBR partition - it will not see a GPT/GUID partition - and obviously not raid mode.
i'm testing it on my win7 boxen and macbook unibody and so far no problems. will update when i see a crash. the mac is pretty aggressive on sleep so it probably will show up first
Thanks Guys, Finally had success, the problem was i was running my SATA ports under IDE mode, not AHCI. The following is the entire detailed procedure so that others may benefit.
My Motherboard is a Gigabyte ep45t-usb3p bios 1.02d
My OS is Vista 32. Procedure for Win 7 is identical.
My SSD is the Microcenter G2 64GB, a re-badged ADATA 599
OS is installed to SSD with WD 1TB HDD as slave
1. Download Update to 599 from ADATA to a folder named \ADATA\ slave HDD.
2. Decompress using 7-zip to folder in slave HDD
3. Download Intel INF update from Gigabyte for my MB
4. Edited Registry to enable AHCI as to not have to reinstall Vista, Win 7 registry settings are the same;
4a.Open Regedit
4b.Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlset/Services
4c.right click on "start" key and choose modify
4e.In the value Data field removed existing value of "4" (Your value may be different) and changed to "0" without quotes, all other values where not changed.
4d.exited regedit and reboot
5.Entered BIOS during reboot, went to Integrated Peripherals and changed Sata mode from IDE to AHCI (default was IDE for my board) ,save changes and exit.
6. POST dialog for AHCI comes up detecting drives,no action required, normal boot to Vista, Standard AHCI controller is detected and all Sata devices are reinstalled, reboot when prompted.
7. Normal reboot. Ran install for Intel INF update, Intel INF updates Standard AHCI controller, prompted to reboot again
8. Sata AHCI devices are re-detected, prompted to reboot again.
9. Upon reboot, went to folder where SSD firmware was decompressed.
9a. Right click on SSDupdate.exe and choose "run as administrator" Drive is detected as SSD G2 series 64GB firmware 3.1.0.
9b. Selected 3.4.6.pkg in firmware package field
9c. Checked box next to SSD G2 series 64GB
9d. Clicked Download Firmware to Selected Drive button
9e. Dialog for sectors being written comes up, gets stuck at sector 855 for a couple of seconds, update completed message comes up and reboots
9f. During initial shutdown after flash, experienced Vista Image error and BSOD. shut down with power button.
9g. Reboot with power button, choose normal boot to desktop.
10. Ran SSDupdate.exe again to check update results. firmware rev is now listed as 3.4.6, Reboots successfully with no BSOD or Vista image errors , Done!
Changing to AHCI not only enabled the firmware update, but also makes the drive substantially faster. most of my background apps are now loading even before the desktop comes up. There is a new POST screen indicating AHCI is starting, its only a second or two, and not all Mobos are going to have this additional dialog.
