<P class=MsoNormal>Those of you who no longer have access to Stern should really check out alt.binaries.howard-stern. It is the absolute best resource for Stern fans. Not only are there Sternaholics out there who post full shows (with commercials removed) but there are also some that post it LIVE in half hour chunks soyou can listen to the show in the morning. In fact, in many ways it?s 100x better than listening on the radio? you get perfect reception, you can fast forward through commercials, listen when you have the chance and not miss out on any good segments because of a meeting or anything and you get to hear the ENTIRE show (because really, who gets up at 6 am just to listen to the show?). I do it at work everyday and let's just say my productivity has tumbled. On top of that there are also lots of ?classic? posts?entire episodes from the ?golden days? of 1995-7 or classic bits from the past that were really funny. You can also make requests (i.e. if you want to hear Howard interview your favorite band or whatever) and oftentimes the people who patrol the newsgroup find it in their collection and post it for you. My isp doesn?t carry the newsgroup so I needed to get an 8 dollar a month teranews account but it is completely worth it. After that, just download a program called Forte Agent and everything is a snap.

The George Takei laugh that started this week is just too funny. And whenever Artie mocks Marriane from Brooklyn and Fred starts playing the crow noises. And then there's that drunk guy with those canned lines like "you skanky ho" and "aw shut up ya bitch." And then when Howard does his Pope impression...

Ack! I can't believe anyone could like Artie's horrible impressions of Marianne from Brooklyn (or its even more annoying identical twin, his version of the always irritating Debbie Schlussel). I love Stern, but Artie has been a terrible addition IMO - as far as I can see he has no talent at all. I liked it when they rotated various people through the Jackie chair, but I think the best shows were the ones with Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel. This morning's show is a reminder of how funny and talented Dave Chappelle is as well - he is consistently great. Artie makes Robin (traditionally the most annoying cast member) seem downright entertaining! I wonder if he has anything to do with the fact that Fred never, ever talks anymore . . .

On the bright side, the Takei laugh was hilarious indeed!

How much space do they have left for music? With Stern 6-11, Don & Mike 11-3, and Opie & Anthony 3-7 do they just shift back to music from 7pm-6am?

As posted by Broohaha you can find it in alt.binaries.howard-stern. If you need to find the date PM me and I will give you a great link that summarizes the show daily. I would post it here but I am not sure the mods would appreciate it. :Q

Hey now babaay......Stern rocks. I listen every morning. I'm one of those guys who get pissed off when he takes vacation. The day just isn't the same. heh.

Anyways, that George Tikai laugh is classic. Artie's impression of Maryann blows. I hate that.

To the guy who said listen to NPR......Do you watch TV at night for entertainment? Or go watch a movie? Quit being a lame a*s and realize that it's just entertainment.

Fun stuff though.

I can't see anything offensive about posting a link to the helpful Mark's Friggin', a site that synopsizes the show every day. It does not contain pornography, and while it is arguably offensive, it is no more so than the nationally-broadcast show itself. I do NOT recommend clicking on this link at work, as your employer may not have the same sense of humor I do!

You are the lawyer, I don't even play one on TV. :p You have to give Mark credit that is a great site he runs.

I didn't claim it and I explained what I meant by that. If you didn't understand it, let me know and I can draw a HUGE diagram for you. I know your sight isn't what it used to be.

The show is hilarious, slow sometimes. It's not Howard who's particularly funny, but the other players and guests. I admire his ability to direct the flow of conversation to keep people at each others' throats arguing. News is always worth a good laugh.

There are people who say they hate Howard Stern, but have never listened to the show. I like to ask them specifically why they don't like him and always get nebulous answers like, "Oh, he offends me and is cruel to women."

The most memorable episodes were the first queef/vart contests they had back around 1997. I stayed in my car laughing for a full hour after pulling into the lot at work. How he made that into a competition still cracks me up.

1. As many have said, those who criticize the show just haven't listened to it. Of course, there's a lot of really questionable, shady sh*t that goes down on that show. Some of it even offends/sickens me. But I know that it's all a big joke; I look at it as being with a group of really close friends. When you're with your really close friends, you always talk about the sickest, most disgusting stuff as if it didn?t matter. Bottom line, I myself am a very conservative person yet I can?t help but listen to the show because it?s so funny. Heck, even my old crank of a dad loves the show. And he?s a religious nut!
2. Why in God?s name would I listen to NPR in the morning? I?m all tired and cranky when I wake up. Howard brings me to life while NPR would just make me more tired and cranky. Frankly, I prefer to read the Post, Times and Journal when I want to ?learn something? thank you very much.
3. Artie rules. I don?t know why everybody hates him. Call me crazy but I love almost everything he says. What did Jackie ever add to the show, really? I know he was a writer and all but I haven?t detected a drop off in the writing of the show since back when, just a drop off in Howard?s attitude and demeanor.
4. The E! show is alright but I still think the banter and repartee on the radio show is the best; especially early in the morning and during Robin?s news.
5. I like Robin but damn did you see the E! episode with Gary Busey? Only then did I realize that she literally CANNOT physically stop laughing. She?s a total nut.
6. The voices of everyone sound different from how they did a few years back. If you hear old episodes, Howard?s voice is high pitched and annoying while Robin?s is mellow, soft and silky smooth. Now Howard?s voice has a very nice deep bass while Robin?s is louder and more emphatic. I want to keep the new Howard voice and bring back the old Robin voice and everything will be good.
7. teddymines, I too fall prey to the need to just sit in my car and keep listening to the show. Sometimes I can?t pull myself away...
8. OPIE AND ANTHONY SUCK. They?re on in the afternoon so I tried listening to them a few times on my drive home but man are they ever boring. There was a laugh or two here and there but it just cannot compare to the H-man.
9. And a Bababooey to ya all.

As far as I can see there really is no writing, anymore. Jackie regularly wrote even the regular one-liners that Howard would say during guest interviews (my understanding is that he wrote them during the show in Lotus Notes, and they popped up on a screen in front of Howard), as well as the staged bits. Nowadays, Howard from time to time reads little diatribes, apparently written by Ron Zimmerman, and acts riled up about things instead.

I still love the show, but to me Jackie was a natural wit, whereas Artie is a natural half-wit. I find his painful impressions of Debbie Schussel and Marianne from Brooklyn about as entertaining as a root canal. I still think the show is at its best when Howard has a truly funny guest comedian (e.g., Dave Chappelle, Carolla and/or Kimmel, or Craig Fitzpatrick) to supplement Artie's lame contributions.

This is the worst opinion ever.

Just out of curiosity, how old are you?

EDIT: for funny stuff of theirs, go to www.foundrymusic.com and search for audio clips like "tom brokaw," "rachel," and "robert clary"

(don't go to this site while you're at work - very naughty)

You hit it right on the money. Some of the funniest stuff I ever heard on the show involved Jackie. Extended riffs on his floating dock, multiple houses, Timmy the cat (RIP), Nancy (Jackies wife), throwing a container of urine it of the window of his car and having it hit his mother, heck the list is endless. I really do think the whole dynamic of the show has changed with him gone. I don't dislike Artie but he just does not bring the same creativity to the table as Jackie did. I think you were correct in your earlier post that it was better when they were rotating people through the Jackie seat.

I also liked it when they were rotating, but someone who I almost wish wasn't that successful so he'd do the show everyday would be Adam Corolla.

Whenever he's on the show, I don't think I stop laughing. :)

A lot of people that hate Stern (especially women that hate him) have never listened to him, they've only seen the Playboy Evaluators on the E show and been horrified at how they're pointing out all the flaws on a woman's ass. Once you listen to the radio show, you see how quick and funny he is.

As far as Artie goes, besides not seeming to write anything, my big problem is that he interrupts Howard and breaks his train of thought. Compare Artie shows with old shows, and you'll notice that no one is interrupting Howard constantly, feeling the need to fill every second of dead air. So many of the funny things that end up happening are because Howard just gets off on a topic and starts going with it. Artie messes up the flow of Howard's thoughts because he feels the need to jump in there and repeat what Howard just said, only in a bad cheesy impersonation voice. He's sort of evolved into an impersonator, but he's not real good at it, and Billy West was the best ever anyway. He does get a few right (his drunken Jeff is hilarious) but so many of them sound the same or are just totally lame and overused (his Southern redneck character). Artie tries to be a sidekick, which Jackie wasn't and which Howard doesn't need.

One more thing, do you guys like Evil Dave Letterman? The way he was butchering all his lines last time, it just had me cracking up :D
