There is someone selling a 2-12" Fender Twin Reissue in excellent condition for a very low price, wondered what anyone on here thought of them.

I had a fender twin about 25 years ago. Nice amp. If the price is really good, then I'd go for it.

They sound good at obnoxious volume levels. Otherwise if you're a bedroom rocker..forget about it, it'd sound like mud. I'm partial to Tech 21 stuff for home practice amps.

I would at least buy it with the intention of reselling it provided it's in good condition.

if it's the real deal tube amp, it's a great amp! but not the best choice if you play rock music. much better for blues, jazz, country, etc. it has an amazing clean tone and a "nice" distortion sound, but if you play metal, you do not want "nice," you want "mean."

I will probably see if I can get it for 400. I already have a v-amp 2 for the distortion that I need. I know this amp is not the best for heavy metal, but it is awesome for everything else and this is a real good price.

Yeah, I do recall that it sounded better at high volume, but not so hot at lower volumes.
good point

typical of most tube amps, it will sound great loud. but if the tone doesn't fit your style, what's the point of buying it?

Twins were great recording amps in the 60's-70's. They pair really well with single pickup guitars. The Fender Twins were great at expressing highs, so "shredders" preferred usually them. Clapton recorded a lot of his works with a Fender Twin.

Sounds great opened up real wide and with the tubes running very hot, sounds like sh!te at lower volumes, def a great stage amp.

Like most fender amps they're voiced for single coils, so keep that in mind as well. If you're going to get it grab a signal attenuator or a pedal that can do that so you can play it overdriven as hell at low volumes.

Well, what am I asking is if I should get this for 400, or should I just get another combo amp because I mostly play metal anyways? I have a v-amp 2, which is great. I also do sometimes like to play blues and surf rock. ANything I get needs to be better than my Peavey TKO 115 s though, cause thats a bass guitar amp (yeah I am a bassist 1st, guitarist second).

Like I said earlier the amp shines with single coils so you might keep that in mind. I had a 2x12 Fender HotRod Deville and the distortion is just garbage on it at low volumes, you really and I mean REALLY need to crank a fender amp to get a nice breakup. The twin will give you a nice clean/warm sound great for surf/blues but you'll really need to get those tubes hot to get any sort of heavy gain out of it. I have a heavily modded MetalZone by Boss and I could get the sound I wanted out of it but keep in mind you really have to have a pedal to get any sort of metal tones out of this thing, especially top end harmonics.

Best advice I can give you is to go play one somewhere. If you're looking at this for heavy harmonic distortion I think you're barking up the wrong tree.

Look at a Marshall or VOX. Crate might work well too.

Crate sucks... period! I'll stick with my Peavey Ultra Plus.

Crate is making some nice products these days. You need to get down to the guitar store and see.

I've tried their GX, Vintage Club, and Blue Voodoo series. They haven't impressed me in the least.

I couldn't get a decent crunch tone out of the Vintage Classic. I'll admit it had a nice clean channel, but that's it. The other two... no hope.

You know what, I actually like the large Crate solid state stuff for metal. I'm talking 4x12, 100 watt heads. Their combo amps have always sounded like garbage to me though.

Personally I love my Line6 Flextone III. It's not *the* best metal amp, but it does very well especially on the Mesa Boogie emulator, and the Flextone emulator. And it works great at bedroom levels, which is what I play at. I haven't had a chance to really turn it up yet, though.

Line6 has some of the most innovative products out today. Love their stuff :) I'm really eyeing that new Variax modeling guitar they have where you can add/move your own pickups and model nearly any guitar. REALLY cool gadget. If you ever get a chance to play with one you'll be impressed.

Line 6 amps hold nothing to the real deal. Try playing a Vetta II along with other people. I'd suggest an A/B box with a real tube amp to hear a difference in how badly you get hidden in the mix.
