You can't buy a good car for $20k, you need to spend at least $80k.

No, but really what do you want? Truck, SUV, Sedan, Sports coupe?

I got a 2000 chrysler Cirrus for well under 2k (about 18k I think) a while back. I'm sure they're lower now. but I dont know...there was a 1000 dollar rebate

Anyways...you could check into that :)

You can get almost any truck for around that...and pretty loaded for around 20K. If you like trucks that is.

Under 20k? New? I'd suggest you go down to a store like Carmax and look at some used models (98', 99'). Sometimes they have something pretty nice.

A new Impreza WRX starts at 24k and goes up. They're fugly IMO.

If you want a sporty sedan, I'd suggest looking at used Maxima SEs, Contour SVTs, and Accord V6's. Those are the only 3 that really strike me.

Contour SVTs! What I was looking at :) Nice cars, good power, and they make such a sweet sound!

Too bad they don't make the Contour SVT any more. But you should be able to pick up a used one for a song. The cars depreciate like crazy, let someone else take the hit. Only downside to the Contour is the back seat -- really really tiny. See www.contour.org.

edit: That's right, it's a Ford. Thanks for reminding everyone that Ford makes/made the best sports sedan under 25k. Hope you can figure out which Nissan is yours in the parking lot.

Thanks for reminding everyone that Ford makes/made the best sports sedan under 25k You're kidding.

There is a reason why those cars depreciate like crazy...because they are a Ford, and like any other domestic they have a crappy track record... even the manufacturer admits this. Hence the reason why an import's warranty is generally much much longer than a domestic. When was the last time you bought a ford and the dealer offered an extended bumper to bumper warranty good for 7 years or 100,000 miles?

?? While they were making them, Ford sold around as many Contours as Nissan sold Maximas.

Not SVT Contours which is what we were talking about. 6535 built in 98, 2760 in 99, 2150 in 00. The SVT is a different breed of car.

I dunno, when was the last time Nissan did (hint: they currently do NOT).

edit: Here's a challenge. Find a better performing (overall balance -- handling, acceleration, braking, comfort, engine) sports sedan under 25k fully optioned. Want leather and sun roof on that Nissan, you're looking at around 27k. Sticker price on the SVT Contour was just shy of 23k.

Wait until fall 2001 and get yourself a Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-V. It should be just about 20 G's and it's a phat sporty sedan.

Hehe, my family owns several Nissan's and I'm partial towards Nissans :D
Hey, but we've never had problems with them. They make quality engines and great cars.

Oh, it kinda depends on your age. The younger generation would more likely buy Sentra's. If you a family man, get the Maxima Anniversary edition. At 227 HP, that thing is might fast.

That new Sentra does look pretty cool. Hopefully they do something with that god awful interior though. And hopefully that new engine will be as good as the old SE-R engines. Make sure you order the spoiler delete option, that thing is FUGLY.

Give four door Integra GS-R's a look. Same performance as the coupe, with the four door sleeper look.

You're right. But you were talking about looking different in the parking lot. The SVT was a different car under the hood, definitely. But outwardly, it didn't look that much different than your average Contour LX or SE.

On the road is where you would be able to pick out a Contour SVT, not in the parking lot. :)

The body cladding really stands out from the regular Contour. The front bumper, side skirts, rear bumper, and wheels are all different. Look at the two cars side by side, you can tell a definite difference between the SVT and the rental car version.... Whatever. We're gettin too far off topic from the original thread, we can continue in PM if you'd like.

If you like Nissans, I'd wait until the new 2002 Altima comes out...it will be available in a 240hp v-6. Check it out at here.

If you own a $3000 car like me, there's tons of good cars for $20,000. They're all good for that much... :)
