Any good ASVAB books?

Yeah, I know. That's what the Army guy said. I asked him if I could take it over, and he asked why. He said I could have any job except for a mechanic.

I just want to make sure that I do as well as possible.

My roomate made a 98 and his phone wouldn't stop ringing. The recruiters loved him.

I had a similar problem. The last time they called I gave my phone to my brother. He signed up for the Air Force not long after. Oops.

You need a book for the ASVAB? I remember being in HS and the army people came to administer the test. I only went because I wanted to skip class....it was shockingly easy.

It almost felt like an Aptitude test.

I ended up getting a pretty high score and I was contacted months later by someone who was asking me if I was interested in serving my country. I politely said "on the battlefield? No..but, I'm doing the best I can to contribute something positive back to my country. That's good too right?"

He started telling me about what opportunities I could have. I just told him that I didn't want to fight anyone and I am not strong enough to leave my family to go to another country. I wanted to go to college....

That was about it, they never called again.

But, 3 of my classmates enlisted out of College and they are on active duty now I think. I see them every once and a while on facebook. I hope they are OK.

you didnt take the real test. you took a practice test which is easy compared to the real test.

Ours was in 10th or 11th grade.

It would not surprise me to find that many ATOTers got 99's, with the majority above 80 if not 90.

The simple fact that you can form and type coherent thoughts kind of puts you above a lot of the people taking that test. You have a large combination of a) high schoolers who don't care and will just mark random answers and enjoy their break from class and b) people struggling to get accepted by the military.

When I was in 19D training, I did NOT share my ASVAB score. At the same time, there were a few others (one for sure) that I KNOW had to have gotten help to get the requisite (IIRC) score of 31.

Perhaps he meant it felt more like an MBTI-type test that is 'no wrong answer' and tries to determine what career you'd be successful at. Or, well, good at.

Good != successful. And vice versa. Too many people in this country doing jobs that do not fit their style of thinking whatsoever.

Radio Communications (old WW2 style equipment - 1988, before phased out to satellite)
Veterinary Food Inspection Specialist - wtf
Medic
some Engineer job

Pretty crappy jobs for being in the 98'th percentile; went with the radio job (31C).

But, with such a high score, when I went to Basic, they pulled me and two other guys into a side room, and gave us a test. It was morse code, and they would tell us what the codes meant, then spammed them at us in increasing speed, as we wrote down what codes were being sent.

Afterwards, they offered me a military intelligence job, but I declined after hearing about how they would grill my family and friends, and since I was determined to do only one term, I didn't think MI was the job for me. Funny thing is, I had a Secret security clearance, because of the crypto equipment in my truck, and nobody I knew got talked to.

It's propably harder to get infantry and armor than it is people with decent ASVAB scores who want more mentally demanding jobs, I think.

Okay...so we're talking like fifteen years apart; I think that kind of makes my explanation feasible. When I went in, recruitment was down, and they weren't looking for people for high-tech jobs; they wanted grunts.

That said, I still could've chosen whatever I wanted; it just wouldn't pay me bonuses, and no one tried to steer me away from combat arms.
