Any good ASVAB books?

PSA: this thread is from 2003

I took it once before and made an 89, but I'm not happy with that, and my score is expired anyway.

I aced the general math, coding speed, and electronics parts, but I did really bad on the mechanics section. I'm wondering if anyone has heard of any good books to prepare for the test.

Yeah, I know. That's what the Army guy said. I asked him if I could take it over, and he asked why. He said I could have any job except for a mechanic. 😉

I just want to make sure that I do as well as possible.

My roomate made a 98 and his phone wouldn't stop ringing. The recruiters loved him.

hehe, my asvab score went down the crapper.. when i signed up for the reserves, there were only a handful of local open jobs anyways. Not saying I got a crappy job, but with the reserves, a lot of the cool jobs are not there. Any clue if the score sticks if i go active in a few years?

I had a perfect score on the asvab. When I went into boot camp man did I get picked on. They made made me EPO, I was like the uber-dork.

EPO?
Educational Petty Officer, in the navy. I taught the company while the company commanders lounged in their offices.

I got a high 90's, I think. They offered me a spot (potentially) in the Navy's nuclear science program.

I might go into the military after college.

I'm a junior by credits, second year, will finish in two more years. Thinking probably Navy, but not totally sure - whatever would make the best use of a mathematics/economics degree. 😛

actually , i thought it was a good deal , nothing seriously hard to do, but got out of the galley on work week

I was thinking about being a nuclear technician in the Navy, but wouldn't it be hard to get a job once you got out? I'm planning on going USAF.

If I'm not mistaken, the score should be valid for two years from test date.

Hey bud saw a previous post about joining the navy nuclear program. I went through it and its easy to get work after ur out. I make 140k a year now at a commercial plant. Only downside is the money traps you if it's not what u want to keep doing. I know a lot of unhappy people making lots of dough in this field so it depends what you want. Write back for more info if u like.

Seeing as how this thread is from 2003 I doubt that the original poster still is in need of the information.

Heh... I had 99 percentile on mine back in '03 when I joined the army. There were a couple of other guys there at the time who had 99, but they had lower absolute scores; it was always entertaining when some fool would brag about how well he did.

I never took the asvab. Me and another friend went to comdex as 17 year olds instead!

That said most of the reasonably bright people I knew scored pretty high. I remember if you got higher on it it'd basically tell you you should be a radar engineer or something
