Just got back from Shelby Farms

Rented a boat for $12 and fished Patriot Lake Between the small islands and caught 11 crappie but no keepers and 1 Small Mouth Bass. Was gonna video record it to show you guys but my phone died and i don't have a cam but i might be going tomorrow again.

Man, I got skunked two trips in a row. The first was to a little pond in the woods where we've done well every time. Yesterday my friend and I went out into the marshes of extreme eastern New Orleans. Friends have caught 30 redfish in one sitting there before.

Not even a bite (except for the gnats).

My mojo is broken or something.

Try Venice. I was catching mad trout and redfish there last December, and I'm a major rookie. Some people out there were getting a bite nearly every cast.

Yeah, I've been thinking about heading down there. It may be hot, brutally humid, and painfully flat down here, but there sure are plenty of places to fish. 😛

I wouldn't mind heading up to Toledo Bend at some point. I like salt water, but spending my formative fishing years on a fresh water lake as a kid, I'm a bass fisherman at heart.

I hope I get to go out tomorrow morning. It's been a looooong week. I've gotten home at 1130pm, 1130pm, and 530pm in the last three days. I might fall asleep and float away if I go out. 😛

I like to fish.. My wife does too. Kids are kinda ho-hum about it but they like going on the boat. We go to the lake every chance we get.

Just got the boat back from service and up on the lift.

The plan is to go fishing in the morning for some snapper and grouper but the wind is howling right now and seas are 3 - 5, which is a bit too much for that little dinghy. A front is on the way too. If it's not too bad we might just hit the flats for a while in the morning, if the front has already passed by.

Damn, I miss fishing. Bought a few nice rods and reels just before we moved to the Cape in '11 and never got the chance to use them--just sitting collecting dust. (Pair of Shimano Curados on some Team Diawa sticks for bass fishing.)

Oh well, that'll be fixed in a week or so. 😉

This will be my first time going bass fishing this weekend

My good buddy is buying a top of the line Ranger bass boat with 250 hp motor. I told him if he gets a bass boat I'll pay for gas when we go.

Looks like I'll be doing a whole lot more fishing. Got a trip to Alabama week after next. Small mouth spawn should be real soon locally. Love small mouth fight, much more fun than large mouth.

Its opener here today, and I feel like getting a new rod/reel combo. Mostly off dock and the occasional boat, but I think the lake only gets 20ft at its deepest. I believe most of the species are bullhead, crappie, bluegill, various catfish, pike and muskie, a lot of walleye, pirch, and yellow and white bass. Oh and theres a shitload of asian carp. I wont be going for muskie or pike so what do yall recommend (dont feel like buying something specifically muskie), I have no preference to spinning or casting, Id like to keep in the 6-1/2' to 7', and would like to spend in under $300 if possible but its not a super tight budget. The local fish store only caries Abu Fenwick and Berkley products (they are a manufacturer distributor) and then whatever walmart has, or whatever amazon has.

I'll never stray from the Garcia REVO or Shimano Curado reels. Pure fishing pleasure. You generally get what you pay for with them. Been happy with the newer Shimano rods. Really depends on what you want and what you normally fish/lure.

lol I want to catch anything thats not bullhead or carp. That is about the extent of my knowledge of fishing 😀

Went fishing with success for the first time out here in Arkansas last summer, between me and 2 buddies we caught 9 catfish in total, mine being the biggest at nearly 4 pounds apparently, the bait believe it or not was pepperoni bites you can pick up at any gas station lol and one fish that fought me broke a fresh 10 pound line......

Was so much fun,the hole was a huge fishpound so it was almost like shooting fish in a barrel but honestly not as fun when its like 90 outside with 100% humidity and no shade....i got sunburned but still well worth the experience.

I got an 18-20" redfish on Sunday morning. Supposedly this past weekend was a 1 in 250 year occurrence down here. The lows were in the 40s and it was sunny. It was amazing.

With what? I love the fight of redfish. But to me nothing was like snook.

In cover/weeds? Shallow?

Super stoked for our trip to Alabama.

I like salt over fresh. You never know what you're gonna get.

I caught it using dead shrimp in about eight feet of very murky, muddy water in a bayou. That's not the standard place to get them though. Typically you're going to want live shrimp in shallow marshy water.

A friend caught several in this area (Link). I've caught a couple in that general area (called The Rigolets) on live shrimp. They'll bite dead shrimp, but live are better. You could also use an artificial called Gulp. Where are you going in Alabama?
