oh yeah, they have that gear on the boat we're taking out. it was fun when the guy had that 30" on his line though, he had to walk all around the boat because the fish was going all around and under the boat. it was just fun to see it and see everyone involved in getting the f out of the way!

When you have that fish it's expected for everybody to get their shit in right fucking now. I mean NOW. Reel that shit in right quick as fast as you can crank. and let the fight begin.

He's got a big fish. Get the fuck outta his way. All lines in. Right fuvking now.

Round here you can have everybody's pole get hit with striper at the same time.

Then we all get to dance. That's striper fishing. That's what deprecates the men from da boys.

Nothing like seeing your buddy.

Zzzzzzzxzxzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Snap.

He's just holding the rod. Nothing he can do. That fish just ran your reel outta line. Fish won.

I have two tackle boxes of crap I barely used. I need a new rod though. Haven't been fishing in four years! Last time I went I got sun burnt like hell. We have plenty of good places here. Just Google map my location. LOL

Was out fishing for crappie a couple weeks ago from my kayak, and hooked into a large carp, or so I thought when I saw the size and saw it roll while fighting. Pulled the net out from behind me, because there was no way I was lifting it out of the water with light tackle into the kayak. "HOLY SHIT" reverberated across the lake. 24", around 8 lb bass. (Which is huge by NY standards. Took a picture and released it. Showed the picture to some guys (whose snagged bobber I was nice enough to retrieve), and the guy said, "holy shit. Ohhhhhh, that's why you said holy shit across the lake." Pic on cell phone; I'll try to upload later.

I caught a nice flounder last weekend on Marsh Works Killa Squilla. I might get the kayak loaded up and go back there tomorrow morning. I was going to go today, but I needed the sleep. It's been a long week :p

here was my first:

this was the largest that was caught, which was a 30":

and this was the total score for the day:

overall it was kind of a shitty day to be honest. he drove us to a far spot and we thought that he didn't have an afternoon trip the way he was talking, but we ended up only being able to fish for the big guys for like 45 minutes which was kinda lame on a 6 hour trip. we were fishing for bait for a good 90 minutes or 2 hours, but the fish just weren't biting like they have been when i was out there.

i had a nice sized fish on my line which kept breaking the surface but ended up getting off the hook like 30 feet from the boat and the captain even made fun of me for it :(

Decent small stripes. He shouldn't charge you to catch bait nor be part of the trip. That's his job.

Pan fry the filets with light dusting of seasoned flour. Goes best with a lemon butter pan sauce.

Raining a bit; waiting til it blows over. Done well with the bass so far; averaging about one 18" or better bass every 15 minutes of fishing. Strong steady winds made it way too choppy for the boat, so I fished the shoreline from my kayak. This guy pulled me into the wind/waves for a bit before he tired out. :) A little bit over 28"; couldn't get the scale to hold in his bony, teethy mouth.

Nice. I was going to ask what it was, but the answer was in the picture URL. :p

It's a bowfin.

I need to go fishing up north one of these days. You guys have all kinds of fish I've never had the pleasure of catching.

I need to start again have poles I haven't even used in years.

I still have a commercial one and the old Lucky Black Grouper rod from the Miss Vickey, not like that would be anything that would make sense here.

Been behind the times in my fishing these days :(

I ought to sell that commercial rod, I inherited the motorized one and probably will never use it in my lifetime.

Was at the beach this afternoon/evening with the family and we took a walk on the jetty just south of Port Everglades. Was fun... kids loved seeing a giant cruise ship and a cargo ship go by.

On the way off, there was a guy cleaning a long, slender fish he just caught. At first, I thought mackerel, but as I got closer he already had the head off and it was obviously a barracuda.

Made a comment like "oh, look kids, a barracuda" to which he responded "it's a mackerel!" Wasn't really sure how to respond without saying something sarcastic, so just walked away. I guess when he gets ciguatera poisoning tonight, he can blame it on the "mackerel."

We're not exactly talking particularly confusing fish:

spanish mackerel (delicious):

barracuda (not so much):

They aren't vary tasty though, if even fun to catch like Tarpon.

I've never even like the taste of Spanish Mackerel myself, they aren't Kingfish.

To each his own :)

Yep, have seen some pretty odd things in the Gulf come up here and there.

There was one really thin long purple one with a crap load of teeth I can't remember the name of.

The thing was actually about like 3 feet long and can't remember what my grandfather called it at the time.

Might not have been this thing, but it looked like it.

There used to be a few about maybe they've died out here.

After BP Oil spill and various things wouldn't be surprised, probably many things in the Gulf of Mexico not here from the early 70's anymore.

I was freaking out when I pulled it in, we were a few hours offshore and in about 60 feet of water.

Seems they'd seen a few before, but they went to that area often.

To each his own is right! I'm not a big fan of kingfish, but do enjoy spanish mackerel. Only really like kingfish on the smoker.

I must have tried mine wrong, I actually put Spanish Mackerel in the smoker and it came out badly.

I enjoy it filleted and sauteed or lightly battered and fried. It's not thick or 'meaty' enough to put on the smoker. Now you have an excuse to catch more!

Spent some time on Camano Island two weeks ago with some buddies. Caught a bunch of little sole and sand dabs, along with a fair number of dogfish. A few of the sole were respectibly sized, but for the most part they were all little dinkers.

Then just this last weekend crabbing opened up in the Saratoga passage. Everybody did pretty well, and the crab were really tasty.
