Got the complete series as a gift. I definitely look forward to the weekend spent watching those episodes. Then later watch it again, in French! 😀 I often find it funny when I watch an English series dubbed in Parisian French. I remember when I was young that Captain Kirk had such a different voice in French. 🙂

It's a great show. Good character development, interesting story arcs. It's a pity it was cancelled after just one season. Have you seen the movie Serenity (same characters/universe, slightly different telling of the story)?
 
I saw it at Best Buy for about... $13, and I picked it up as a gift. Although, now that makes me realize that I need to get Serenity to add on to said gift!
 
Its a good show. Each episode gets better and better. Its too bad Serenity didnt do better at the box office.

There's one thing I don't get though.

They speak a lot of Mandarin and yet I don't see any Chinese people in the show.
 
Imaginative and quotable. Didn't believe in the characters. Watchable, even fun sometimes, but overrated.
 
It probably isn't as important as the fanbois claim but they recommend watching it in the order intended, not in the order Fox made them run it.

Oh, and be on the look out for Christina Hendricks.
 
good show! cancelled two seasons too early. the show itself isn't "groundbreaking" but it had a decent plot and good characters.

Jubal Early was such a good character...

I watched a interview with some of the cast and it was explained. Basically in the future that it takes place English and Mandarin are the only two languages that are used and why they slip mandarin in at times. It was based off of current times as English and Mandarin are the 2 most used and/or prominent languages used by the most people today.
 
I've watched it through twice, and it's still one of my favorites. It's on Netflix so I will probably watch it a third time at some point. Makes me sad that it didn't last. Sort of like Arrested Development. Everyone says they loved it, but the ratings weren't there.

Given how Community is getting the axe, I don't think there's ever any hope for those off-the-wall comedies. Modern Family is the only comedy (on air at the moment) that I watch where the producers don't tell me where to laugh with those inane laugh tracks. :\

30 rock, parks and rec and the office.

My gf and I are watching firefly for the first time right now. We have 2 episodes left and we have really enjoyed it. The premise takes a minute to get into and it occasionally borders on ridiculous when people are still using horses in the future, but the show is good enough that you just don't really care.

Yeah, I just mentioned shows that I watched. I've never seen the prior two, and I don't care much for The Office. 😛

Mmm I think you could justify the use of horses if you consider some of these planets to be much more primal than others. Think of them as like tribal Africa vs. New York City.

Actually, horses are very plausible for young or poor colony worlds -- to make more of them, you just need 2 horses and food. To make a car you need factories for all of the parts, and an assembly line to put them together.

Yeah I guess so, but they got their on space ships. No one thought to bring some tractors/motorized vehicles? It seems like we forgot about the wheel in the future.

I don't think there were many places that only used horses, but it has been awhile since I've seen the show.
