He is correct it is total crap that Congress HAS TO take the time to deal with the destruction by the Republican majority of ethics rules over the last 12 years. Well if you didn't mean to call Murtha a lib, it sure looked like it to me. What I would liked to have seen is a conservative from within the Rep party come out and do some questioning. Unfortunately the Reps effectively chased most of the Conservatives out. A great many conservatives were dismayed when the Constitution got redefined by Bush. Activist judges? Perhaps, but activist Presidents? Not in this context, thank you.

While this board is definitely Dem leaning, I'm not so sure nearly as many understand what Liberalism and Conservativism are and instead define it by what their particular party calls it. The stranglehold the two parties have over the country bothers me far more than any supposed threat that Iraq or Saddam was claimed to pose.

I sense your frustration...I too was expecting SOMETHING from the Republicans since they were in control of EVERYTHING. What we got was infighting (MCcain-Bush) and more of the same, just as when the Democrats were in charge. Now the Democrats claim to want to break the cycle, but I see by Murthas comments that this may not be true for all in power. It's great that the majority in Congress felt that Murtha wasn't the way, and didn't show faith in his ability. It's just a shame that they ever supported him at all.

There is certainly some truth in that article, especially the line about Pelosi being tone-deaf vis à vie the press. This was certainly an error on her part, but I can understand why she did it. Without Murtha, the Dems would not have won this election. He was the first to recognize Iraq as a total failure, a lost cause. So she was returning the favor. However, I don't think she properly assessed the situation and acted somewhat recklessly.
Murtha certainly dropped several notches in my book.... If he's a crook he should retire now. Bu Bye. Don't let the door hit you in the as*.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is to be careful with blanket statements. Some folks around here label someone as far left just because they hate Bush for instance. I know a lot of hardcore Republicans who hate Bush so you can't use that as the only criteria.

There have been several threads in the last few months where people have stated their views on a variety of issues, immigration, taxes, abortion, etc and I think it opened a lot of eyes around here that people typically labeled as far left or far right really aren't and are being judged as such because of their opinion on one particular topic rather than the sum of their collective views.

The Dem's aren't even sworn into office yet and even when they are, they have a very, very, slim majority. On top of that, Bush is still our fearless leader.

If your getting all excited about playing the blame game then come back after the Dem's have control of everything. Then you can blame whatever goes wrong on them. Right now, it's all the Repug's mess and it will be some time before things get straightened out.

We truly should work to get these corrupt turds out of ofice. I am doubting Pelosi and her intentions to do so with each crony/thug that she backs.

Politicians are inherently tarnished. The higher the level the more that they likely had to compromise their integrity.
