Show us your tanks!
EDIT: added new 200G video.

http://vimeo.com/39265808

I recently took down my 210G down to a 90G setup. There were more scratches than I could deal with, so it's getting repolished inside out. Going to take the time to redo the plumbing, move the sump down the basement and get rid of nuisances that have been plaguing the tank (mostly worms).

Shots of the 90G.

Sweet. I was in the hobby for decades. I love a nicely done reef tank.

If (as it looks) you moved all the rock from a 210 into a 90, you have quite the "wall-o-rock" in there...and IMO, it's not a bad look, just a bit crowded for teh fishies.

Looks like mostly LPS corals. Thinking about getting into the SPS? (aka colored sticks)

I also notice you have GSP in there. (green star polyps)

Get rid of those immediately. Those can quickly take over a tank and kill off competing species.

This is a pic of my old 90 gallon:

The GSP's on the left of center started as 2 one-inch frags...in about a year, they had spread throughout the tank. If you look carefully, you can see where they're attacking the soft (unidentified) colt(?) coral in the center. (whitish ends)

They are teh debil in reef tanks.

I only have a 65g tank with a few Cichilds, cant get any more because my one alpha male (fully mature yellow lab, even has a mask/beard!) will kill any newcomers overnight 🙁 Im letting some others grow in my quarantine tank and hopefully they get big enough in a year to not get pushed around like the others. Maybe Ill just get rid of the alpha but Ive had him forever and doubt I could just get rid of him.

He even killed my 8" pleco that invaded his territory one too many times

I had a small 36G reef tank with my ex-GF. Only got as far as a single mushroom frag. Then we broke up and since I did all the maintaining of the tank she didn't want to keep it (we set it up in her new condo) so we sold it.

I would love to get back into it one day. I learned a lot about what not to do since we jumped into that tank without doing much research. But fuck is it an expensive hobby.

saltwater is expensive, freshwater is as cheap as you want to make it, just need a tank, filter, and heater.

Great looking tank, love the Blastomusa. I see some Acans in there, careful, they are aggressive as all get out.

Try rearranging your aquarium. I've that it helps when putting in new Cichlids because they all have to fight for new territory.

Wow, nice pics. I've always wanted to do salt water but I just don't have the time to keep up on the maintenance.

Also, the biggest tank I have is a 30L, I doubt that is big enough to be worth it. I used to have it set up fresh water with an oscar, ivory cichlid, and a pleco. Between those 3 fish it basically filled the tank, which felt cruel (they could barely move). If I set it up again it will be all small fish.

Ive had about everything thorugh the years. My latest tank is a 90 with sump, freshwater. I have 6 discus, 4 bushy nose plecos, 6 cory's, and about 20 tetras.

I like discus. I got into breeding them 20-odd years ago when they weren't so common or popular.
Bought some of my breeding stock from some of the biggest names in the biz at the time. Jack Wattley, Bing Seto, and a few others.

Never got to be a "money maker," but I more than paid the costs involved.

Very nice. I wanted a discus tank for the challenge, and that theyre about the most beautiful freshwater fish there are. Although I will say maintaining proper water quality is soooo much easier with a sump than even the best canister or hanging filters. I also crossed purist lines and got a bulldog discus....thats an interesting fish for sure.

Thanks! I have mostly LPS, softies and mushrooms in there. I just dont have the adequate lighting to grow SPS, and I am not a big fan of their appearance in general. As for the green star polyps, I have never thought of them as a nuisance. Yeah they tend to grow faster than the rest, but I keep them under control by trimming and fragging them every once in a while. I give them away or trade them and never heard anyone complain about them. Algae outbreaks are much more of a nuisance for me and I used to handle them by keeping the fishes drunk (vodka dosing)!

I know it's a bit crowded in there. I'd like to keep some room around the rocks to get a nice flow going, but I am out of room until I finish setting up my main display tank.

edit: holycrap I just noticed the gigantic sand bed in your tank. Are you trying to get rid of nitrites with it?

I have a few buddies who are way into it and have some beautiful tanks. They're trying to talk me into getting a 28 gallon nanocube. I am actually really interested in it and think it would be fun but I'm a little worried about the upkeep costs. I would do a saltwater one when/if I get into it.

Saltwater is way more expensive than freshwater.

My old admin used to breed clownfish but stopped because it was so expensive and something in San Antonio wasn't conducive to breeding.

I was a big LPS guy and they're still my favorites, but there's a LOT to be said about a really nice SPS tank, they grow so damn fast! Next tank will be SPS dominant with some LPS/zoos.

Like I said, watch out for those acan, when they get big they will reach out and touch anything even many inches away. VERY nice LPS you have. Given very good conditions they can grow quite rapidly.

I'm getting a 300 gallon tank after the first of the year. It will be an in wall setup with a fishroom behind it.
currently have a 150 gal, 55 gal, 75 gal, 29 gal, and about 700 gal freshwater tubs my koi are living in until the pond is done.

uhh you guys put my setup to shame. but hell i probably paid alot less than you guys did and maintenance is easy. i paid about $150 for the tank, hood, stand and canister filter.

45gallon tall

10 cardinal tetras
4 gold laser cory cats
4 bolivian rams
2 albino bristle nose plecos
8 espei rasboras
2 assassin snails

marineland c360 canister filter

my fiance restained the stand too from the nasty looking pine color.

I've always been a fan of deep sand beds. Yes, there are possible downsides to them, but in all my years in the hobby, I never experienced any issues. Lots of room for the "bugs" to grow and burrow, plenty of depth for watchman gobies and their shrimp, good solid bed under the rockwork.

At one time, the thought was that a proper deep sand bed needed to be between 4 and 5 inches thick to work right. IIRC, that 90 gallon had 200 pounds of nice white Caribbean aragonite sand.
I haven't had a working aquarium in the house since early 2005. Probably never will again. I can't physically do the work necessary to maintain one properly. (I considered a nano tank...but IMO, they're not worth the work.)

I know that 90 looks "full and crowded," but it was just a "holding tank while I was putting together a 180...then I blew out my knee and back...and the 180 never got put together. I sold it cheaply to a friend, just to get it out of the house.

Nice setup! I have a 65 reef. Had a 90 before I moved to NC. I'm getting ready to take the 65 down ( I hate the form factor of a 65g) and replace it with a 60 cube. It's been taking me forever since I decided build the stand. My first time building a stand, and it's been a total pain. Hopefully I can have it done early next month.

Hey T. I wondered if you'd see this and chime in.

I have thought of getting into it, but I'm not home enough to enjoy it, and if there's a leak it would be too late before I get home. Huge mess lol.
