Are you being serious with this stuff? I can't tell. What if sales tax was 50%? Would you still be happily pay it because 'the gov says so'?

Sales tax isn't 50%, so nice straw man. And this thread is akin to asking where to download the latest Game of Thrones episode.

You spend $30 worth of gas to avoid paying $8 in sales tax. And the drive probably negates the day or two you saved in shipping time anyway. So you're one of those people, huh?

mom will come down once a month to visit. :)

I'd move back to the Hanover, NH area in a minute.

Cold in winter but that doesn't bother me and the changes of season is incredible.

NH natives have a nice bumper sticker "Welcome to New Hampshire, now go home" :D

So.. from winter, to fall to winter? That season change? No thanks, I would like to live somewhere where there is a summer and it regularly gets into the upper 90's or lower 100's at least a couple months out of the year.

When the OP is trying to break the law (because, it is against the law to evade paying taxes, whether you think it is 'right' or not), people should tell him like it is.

As much as I hate to agree with 'medium rare', I have to agree with his response that this is basically like asking where is the best place to pirate <insert whatever movie, music, show, game, etc here>. You might not think piracy is stealing, but that doesn't change the fact it is illegal.

That's why best buy, walmart, and a lot of local stores complained in the first place. But what they SHOULD do is impose internet tax. That would get all criminals who evade these taxes to pay up!

And don't forget to pay for your use tax as well too! I just got a present from my cousin overseas and I'm fully planning on paying the use tax.

I don't think you understand what a use tax is. If you received it as a gift, you wouldn't have to pay use tax on it. If you purchased it out of state (regardless if it is in another state or in a foreign nation), you have to pay the applicable taxes of that state. You are entitled to receive a refund for any taxes you paid to the other states as well.

They shouldn't "impose" an internet tax. They should just force internet retailers to charge the tax based on where the goods are to be consumed. The only difference is that rather than relying on the purchases to accurately reflect the taxes they owe for out of state purchases, they are relying on the far easier to go after retailers to enforce it.

I do, understand what it is, as far as do I know what it completely covers? Probably not 100%. Yes, a use tax is purchase of items for "use" in my of California. (I'm sure other states are very similar)

HOWEVER -- Gifts you received while abroad are not subject to use tax. You must provide a signed letter from the donor describing the gift and verifying that no consideration was received. Please note that you are the consumer of items you purchase to give as gifts and you owe use tax on your cost of such merchandise if it exceeds the exemption amount noted above.

we should turn this thread into a tax thread!!! :)
