This is just another sad attempt to paint all of Hollywood as a bunch of radical homosexuals pushing their Communist/homo agenda and trying to destroy America. Not surprised at all that this topic was all over my local right wing radio.

I'm sure Lions for Lambs can be summed up in American soldiers are rapists, yes, I'm sure that's what the movie is about. All the previews I've seen depict it exactly as such. Maybe Rube Goldberg should see the movie before labeling it as America hating. I haven't seen the movie but from what I can tell Tom Cruise plays a caricature of some high office official who's perhaps operating outside the law in the name of winning the war on terror. That's what I got from the previews I've seen, maybe I've got it all wrong, *shrug*

As far as I know Rendition did poorly because it's just not a very good movie. One thing I will say is that I think the war and what has been done in America's name over the past 6+ years is something most Americans don't want to admit or deal with with. It's depressing and shameful.

When I go to the movies it's an escape from reality, I don't want to be confronted necessarily with the skeletons in our collective closet.

I saw The Kingdom and it definately was not anti-war but more anti-terrorist pro-special forces.

JG would rather push his agenda in lieu of the facts.

I think you're right that people would basically rather be entertained than have to endure a movie's uncomfortable subject matter. But that doesn't change the fact that Hollywood (although driven largely by dollars) STILL manages to take a leftist perspective more often than not.

Say what you want about Goldberg, but he's basically right. This crop of "anti-war" films isn't exactly making waves... or much money. I'm not going to make all sorts of big assumptions based on that, but I tend to think if they were doing fantastic and creating all this hype then the Left would certainly be pointing that out and using it as ammo in their agenda.

Lets see, all day long I read about people dying in the iraq war or all the money the war costs or I hear about it on the radio. People talk about it on talk shows and at work, and its brought up constantly as a related topic in everything. Why in the hell would I want to spend my free time watching a movie about it?

What exactly are you basing that on?

Yeah, got to love those mind reading arguments. It's like a strawman argument taken one step farther...you're not suggesting people actually DO think a certain way, you're saying they MIGHT and then you're arguing against that completely imaginary viewpoint. How about coming up with a real argument?

Yeah whatever... like I was arguing anything. Calm down chief, it's just harmless speculation

Pretty amazing that a film that "never got inside the US" made $326,876 here.

http://boxofficemojo.com/movie...d=roadtoguantanamo.htm

More correctly put, it never got a distribution deal from a major distributor here. That's pretty much a kiss of death the commercial viability of any film. The 300k+ was probably made in a couple of indepedent art houses, one or two days at each. That's what happened when it showed in my area.

Back to the main topic, how could Robert Redford's Lions For Lambs be said to have tanked-it's release doesn't even start until this Friday. I guess "Professor"John's source is either clairvoyant or displaying it's bias a bit early. One more unfounded opinion piece being protrayed as hard fact when it clearly is not.

To be fair to the author, Lions for Lambs has been nearly universally panned by critics, so it's fair to say it has tanked critically. Obviously that doesn't always correlate to commercial success, but it's not looking good.

If the truth were free, people still wouldn't want it. They especially aren't going to actually pay for it.

The truth hurts.
