trying to put down an argument here

For a Canine I don't see why it would be different from a human but the other person stressed that its Specifically Dogs.

I Say: Giving half a dosage could still have the same effect as the Full dosage. It depends how the dogs system takes it.

The Other Person: Half Dosage will make the dog less constipated, because Vets know what dose to give by the weight of the dog.

Half a dosage of anything won't have the same effect as the full dosage, unless half of the dosage is enough for an O.D. at which point the full dose will kill just as well. Think about this: if you take one pill of ibuprofen, does it fix your headache? It'll likely dull it, but the pain won't go away. Take the full dosage and the headache goes away for a bit. Dosages are there for a reason. Half doses are typically less effective than a full dose, but more effective than nothing.

Having dogs and vet friends - I have always given to my large dogs 100lbs the adult dosage of pink bismuth as recommended. For my dachshund, it's 1/4 of that dosage. Has worked for my dogs for years.

Dosages will vary on dogs based on the medication. For allergic reactions, the dosage of benedryl for dogs is 1mg per lb which is much higher than for humans.

Note - not any medication for a specific issue is beneficial for a dog. From the above, other diarrhea or allergy medications that you may use on a human can be harmful to a dog.

Yea, but for Diarrhea, you either have it or you don't, so half the dosage might still work, right?

That's not true. Most medications are dose dependent. You may have less runny stool with half the dose, but it's not likely to be solid like it would be with the full dose. Most things in the body aren't all-or-nothing.
