Hollywood. If it didn't exist, I wouldn't bash on Cali so much. But it's that one bad apple that gives the rest of the state a bad name for me. Oh, and San Francisco and Berkley are the other two bad apples.

Yes. Nuke Berkeley. I hate that town. And get rid of Oakland.

San Fran can stay - it's mostly alright.
Berkeley isn't that bad of a city. Oakland... well, I wouldn't mind if the city mysteriously vanished overnight.

Berkeley itself isn't bad....just all the ****** idiots that live there.

California is hated because:

It is the leading liberalistic state known widely for its readily acceptance of greed, homosexuality & promiscuity. 98% of the rest of the states are conservative christian america.

It is the leading consuming wasting state (suffering under several key energy, spending, & waste crises), providing little in return except its home of the entertainment industry, which produces no real useful product, like coal or steel or cars.

It is home to arguably the worst city reputation-wise in the entire united states, Los Angelas, known for its high crime rates, gangs, and spectacular speeding chases which lead to death.

Californians often portray themselves as better than the rest of the states, and are often snobish and downcasting to non-californians.

Califoria is well known for its famous earthquake faults, which are just disasters in waiting.

the list goes on and on...

Texas and the rest of the deep south are known for being exaclty the opposite, radical conservatives, with which most of the country can more easily identify.

Wow. I'm not even gonig to bother with the rest of your points, because this one alone is about the most ridiculously stupid thing you could say.

Some info:
As of 2005, California has the sixth largest economy in the world. It is responsible for 13% of the United States' gross domestic product (GDP). The gross state product (GSP) is about $1.55 trillion ($1,550,000,000,000, as of 2004), making it greater than that of every other U.S. state, and most countries in the world (by Purchasing Power Parity).

California produces more agricultural products than any other state in the nation.

California is home to most of the computer industry, without which you wouldn't be posting here.

California is where most aerospace engineering takes place, it's where nifty planes like the F-22 are developed.

This list goes on for miles. Did you seriously think that no one in California did anything but make movies?

Probably the following stereotypes:

1) It's seen as liberal - tax the rich, give to the poor.
2) Hollywood image - liberal, vanity-minded actors (even though the vast majority of the 34 million residents have nothing to do with Hollywood.)
3)High cost of living

I'm sure a lot of it is envy. I've been in the state for a over a year and it's great place to live. Beats the hell out of suffering through winter.

We don't have winter. Yet another reason I want to leave. I like having 4 seasons, thank you very much.

I'll trade you the 5 foot snow banks, the -10-20°F temps, and the plowing snow with my car on main streets we've been doing for the last 5 months any day.

Becareful what you wish for son.

You can have the 110° summers.

Besides. -10° isn't that cold.

98% of America is Conservative Christian? Where do you get your statistics? I suspect it's the same place you get your spelling of "Los Angelas" [sic].

ppl hate cali cuz it has stupid asshat laws like no smoking indoors, u can barely modify (performance) your car, etc.. CA is usually the first state to implement these retarded laws.

Still a damned good law.

Recently there is a town down south which passed a law banning smoking anywhere that non-smokers congregate. That's an even better law.

110° isn't very hot, way more tolerable than -10°

I can't stand temperatures 80° or higher. Too hot.

I lived there for about six months. It's among the top 3 worst states I've ever been in (along with Texas and New Jersey humorously enough). Seriously, I hated almost everything about it. Numerous visits to other parts of the state have done very little to change that opinion.

Bullshit. I'll take -10 for a year before I'd want 110 for a week. But then, I think any temps over 70 are unneccessary, over 80 makes me irritable and over 90 makes me homicidal.

jealousy

yes, everyone is jealous of our >=8.25% sales tax, 9.3% state income tax, traffic, illegal immigration, etc...

no really though the only thing that keeps me here is family and weather.

i figure jealousy since most people who talk crap about CA seem bitter about it, like CA was a girl that dumped them...

I lived in CA for 5 years. The weather is great and there are a lot of really nice/cool people there. It's the unusually high number of extremely disturbing people that I don't like.
